Just installed my strut bar...question?

So I'm wondering how tight I'm supposed to put the bolts back on. I tightened it as tight as I could using a socket wrench, but was wondering if I should take it somewhere to have someone take an impact gun to it for safe measures.

It's the el cheapo bar from performance improvements, I just don't want to be driving down some street and have everything fall apart on me.

Is there anything else I should keep in mind with installing the bar?

Alittle paranoia never hurts

hand tite is good..
32 ftlb. +/- for the Gen7's, i can't see the older models being far off from that..

i just did one last nite..

I never put much weight to torque specs before, but after shearing a few bolts that were torqued too much and seized, I would seriously recommend torquing them to as close to spec as possible.

I just put coilovers on my 93 Si, and I believe those bolts were 40ftlbs. It isn't all that much... much less than "as tight as you can crank on it with a socket"

Also, as a side note, torquing your wheel lugs evenly is important too, since uneven lugs will warp your rotors.

Tighness does not matter much to me, I just tight them like crazy, depends on how strong you are, some people's tight might not even be enough (you girly man...lol). I'll explain what the dealer told me.

They are afraid that if the bolt is so tight, that they can't take it out. If they use alot of force and effort to take them out, they would damage the bolts and treads. For the tires, the treads are one piece with the rotor etc... if you damage them, they will not stay tight, and you might have to replace it with new treads.

For the strut tower, the worry here is if the bolts are not tight enough, it will move slightly. This will give new meaning to dangerous cornering. Do what they tell you and get a torque wrench and do it right. You can buy one at Home Depot or any hardware store.

I just had a conversation with a friend yesterday and he says that there is a certain technique to installing the bar. According to him, tightening the braces first and then tightening the bar into the braces is incorrect.

He was informed that you should do the reverse by putting the braces on loosely to the frame, tighten the bar on the braces and then tighten the braces to the frame of the car. Theory is that the over all setup will be stiffer as the bar will have to flex to compensate for the braces being forced down into position onto the frame.

Would this make a difference either way?

ya it would make a diff..
for the worse i'd think..
yer stretching the hold-downs to accomodate what the bar is set for, possibly pulling the uppers out of where they should be..

imo, hold-downs first, then bar to max push..
