Intake Help
Hey guys
dec 10th i picked up my 2006 Civic Si in Haby Red just a lil info for you guys. now which way is better, our winters are tough, i want cold air few ppl i asked say no 2 close to the ground your going to pick up water and mess up ur motor and others say it will be fine and it sounds great and u gain at least 5 hp. i had a 2002 civic si and i had K&N short ram intake and it sounded pretty sweet so to get short ram or to get cold air thats one Q. and here is the other one, i was just wondering replacing the stock air filter with a K&N filter (not short ram or cold air just a plain filter) will i still get the 5 hp gain or should i throw in one of the intakes and i was wondering if i buy cold air its likely to be from AEM but should i replace the cone filter with one from K&N or just let it be? feedback plz looking to make my final choice in a months time.
thanks

Here's some useful advice. If your going for the sound, get an Injen or AEM v2 intake. If your not going for sound, just leave it stock. Intake is not going to make much of a difference in Hp.
Even if you actually do get 5hp, you won't be able to tell the difference.

There is a DIY on the Hondata website for modifing the stock airbox on a K20 RSX. I'm sure a similar DIY can be done to your car.
I don't even think there is a CAI available or the new Civics yet. AEM will probably be the first, and I'm sure it will be close to $400 just like their V2 intakes. Thats a lot of money for a few hp.

for an n/a car, what would you suggest modifying then? intake alone doesnt yield much besides noise, but a full i/h/e is the best way to help air flow. and by this i dont mean intake, header, and muffler or intake, header and cat back, the whole exaust.

It helps, just not a lot. But still helps.
Anyway if you have the plastic piping for the stock airbox something like inside the EG's, then I would suggest going ghetto and sticking an aftermarket air-intake into that plastic piping and just getting some metal and create a bracket for it not to shake.
Ive done it with the familys 98 accord and it works and still helps too.

actually for the price, you can make your own and do away with the whole stock intake, as having a cone filter on the stock ribbed plastic piping wont yield any performance gain at all (not that intakes do in the first place) but a smooth inside helps airflow.
