Idle problem

when my car is warmed up and I put it in neutral or park it keeps reving up and down constantly until i turn the car off or either put it into gear.....also i notice some power loss and stronger deceleration when i release the gas pedal while driving....... an ideas????

vacuum leak.

Normally I use a stethoscope with a rubber hose on the end to find a leak. Or just spray intake clean around gaskets, hoses, etc.

imported_redlineracer 08-Jul-2007 02:22 PM

thanks, yeah i was thinking it might have been that, but could it be my intake manifold gasket??? I feel A LOT of hot air in the engine bay, like when i open the hood all the hot air comes out....but it's not running hot, so there MUST be an air leak, I checked all the hoses but nothing, but that was just eyeball........

could also be the eacv. try spraying some carb cleaner init and let it soak a bit and put it back on. but check for vacuum leaks first. could also be air in the coolant system. try bleeding it.

imported_redlineracer 08-Jul-2007 08:49 PM

yeah it's weird i was out today and it never did it, it does it sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.....but what remains constant is the higher revs when idleing.....

imported_chris_v2 08-Jul-2007 09:19 PM

99% sure its a vacuum leak.

When you have a leak, your car is running lean=no power situation.

As well as your rpm's will increase at idle.

You have a leak. Yes it could but an IM gasket, could also be a tb gasket, pcv hose, fpr, could be leaking out of the iacv gasket, etc. Its your job to isolate the leak.

cool, thanks a whole bunch, i'll try spraying down possible areas....so what should happen? It would bubble up wherever sprayed right?

imported_chris_v2 08-Jul-2007 10:53 PM

no

the idle should increase. Make sure to use something that is flammable. If you dont have parts cleaner or intake cleaner.. use a mini propane tank or something

ok so my mechanic ran a diagnostic and says that my injectors are gone bad........ so far i bought an injector cleaner, poured that in, hopefully something happens which i doubt, but does this make sense?? injectors??

imported_chris_v2 12-Jul-2007 01:05 PM

Injector cleaner wont do anything if its that bad. You'll probably need to replace the injectors

imported_redlineracer 12-Jul-2007 09:40 PM

but i mean the revving up and down when warmed up being an injector problem does that make sense......i heard some people saying injectors and fuel pumps in these cars never go bad....... ?

imported_redlineracer 13-Jul-2007 03:11 PM

i was reading up a bit more and found that if i don't have any vacuum leaks and no coolant leaks then it could be my thermostat or distributor....??? how would i go about troubleshooting them??? man i'm looking at everything, just don't understand this wierd problem.......

imported_redlineracer 14-Jul-2007 01:16 PM

oookk so I found out my IACV motor is gone bad!! finally figured it out.......
