I THINK i can feel VTEC...maybe
yesterday i posted saying i couldnt feel vtec in my sohc....well..today me and friend when to a side street and i let it rip....i listened closely all the way in first gear and i DID hear a jump in the engine at around 5600 RPM...nothing to throw me back in my seat but i did hear the engine sound a little louder...
Would a VTEC controller make that Vtec kick in earlier say 4500 rpm instead of at around 5600???

I saw the following posted on a cdn site:
Field SFC-VTEC Fuel and VTEC Controller
The SFC-VTEC allows the air/fuel ratio to be tuned to perfection as well as smoothing out your torque curve. Adjusting the VTEC switch over point allows a seamless transition from the low rpm cam profile to high rpm profile. A significant amount of mid range improvement can be expected

From what I know:
Honda spent years engineering VTEC and finding out the best Xover point.
Why go and mess with good solid engineering? The only reason people change the vtec crossover is when they have some crazy mods which require more fuel, ie custom fuel map, or have some serious engine work in which they gain a lot more from the second cam profile.
approx cost of a VAFC is like $500...
but then again, what'd i know... i'm just a VTECless DX

The last one I like....it blue. ooooooo pretty, maches my colour scheme.
Take your pick....
Cheap to expensive.
Better to get a CAI and header....look nicer.

sheesh...just asking if what you thought of it....obviously you dont like the idea of making your own VTEC controller
i just figured that my 128KM d16 wasnt worth spending $500 on a real controller just to gain a couple mid range horses...

Here my problem with this post...
1. People aren't answering that truley know what is going on...
2. This could cause problems in the future...
Purchasing a vafc or anyother electronic device of another car is not a good idea...Especially when it comes to the VAFC...I have been warned about it and it can cause many problems... These types of thing you need to ask a machanic about.
Also the Vafc isn't only for the vtec engagment point it also deals with air fuel ratios and changing the fuel maps ect...if you buy a VAFC off of a prelude with the prelude specs like weight engine size ect...already programmed into the VAFC...KABLAMMOOOOO waste of money

Buying a V-AFC off another car isn't an issue. The unit is universal and user programmable. If you buy a used one off a prelude like you said, sure it will probably already have some sort of program already tuned for the Prelude H22 or H23 motor or whatever the case may be and yeah you will probably run into problems if you leave it as is (problems such as running rich, which isn't dnagerous at all but that's another issue) , ... but that's what makes the V-AFC so versatile...you can change the fuel settings to suite your needs. Hence 'user programmable". If this wasn't the case i doubt anyone would buy it...
Basically, all V-AFC's come out of the box identical, they are not vehicle specific.

VAFC in my opinion, are pretty useless.
Unless your car is already tuned as far as you think you are willing to go, there isn't a real point to a VAFC.
If you want a little cheap power, and your motor to feel more responsive, get a chipped ECU with a race program.
You'll feel it for sure.

It seems to me that a chipped ECU just has different maps and crossover points.

huh? Isn't that what a V-AFC does?
