Question How would I know if my engine mount is gone?

I don't know what the problem is, but when I reverse my car, sometimes (and this is like 7 out of 10) the engine will have this weird vibration sound, like the sound of strut tower bar hitting the metal intake pipe (but the two donˇ¦t touch each other). This problem has occurred for at least 2 to 3 months, if not, more. A while ago, when I popped my hood to do some work there, I noticed around the engine mount(s), there are flakes and whatnot around it (assume I know what an engine mount looks like), and some parts are even hollow? Like a colony of termite in a trunk of wood. The car is about to hit 110000km and it is 4 years old. Daily driven since day one. I wonˇ¦t be doing an engine swap anytime soon (if I am lucky, maybe in the next 5 to 6 years lol) so I was wondering:

1) Is it time to change the engine mount?
2) If so, do I buy the whole mount (metal + rubber) or just the rubber part?
3) And about some decent aftermarket engine mounts? Like SRR?

Oh, and I have been hearing squeaking sound coming from rear suspension, time to change those bushing as well? I will be tackling my front and rear sway bar project soon and I wonder if it is a good time to change them all? Like get an ES Hyper Flex set and get it over with?

Thanks guys

Oh, I just had another thought...

if it is the engine mount, wouldn't I feel the same vibration while the car is moving forward? So could it be the reverse gear? Cause I know a lot of people that use D series transmission have problem shifting into reverse, and we often go into 1st gear then go back into reverse. I think I need to change the transmission fluid too.

could just be clutch chatter... I'll look at your engine mount if you come to WIS friday. bring a flashlight.

I have super bad clutch chatter when it gets cold out. It's a Civic thing

an engine mount... it would cause your whole car to vibrate with the engine... like your rearview would vibrate at idle. Also, it may manifest itself in excessive shifter movement when you get on it, and it can also cause rough shifts 1-2 and the whole car would shake as if you don't know how to drive stick

mmm, I think the passenger side engine mount has a little hole/recess in it, I am not sure if that's the way it suppose to look.

But the car doesn't rattle like you described Bruno. Let's check it out tomorrow, you can test drive it and see if it has the same problem as your car

BTW, you driving your baby up here?

When your engine mount is toast you here clunking when the engine torques back and forth. put it in gear hold the brake and rev the engine a bit. try drive or reverse. you should hear like a bacging if the mount is gone.

it's a 2000? I don't think the mount would be the problem.
