How to distinguish type r from b16 head?

Wondering if there was any way to tell the difference between a b18c5 head from a b16 head, besides the difference in valve cover. Anyone know?

1. If the intake maifold is still on it, that would be one way, as ITR IM is diff then SIR

2. You can tell by the cams inside they should be scored at the ends i beleive,

eg.
---_---
__--__

3. If it is USDM it should be from 97-01 stamped on head close to where it would say PR3

4. It should have a slight port & polish job done on it (factory one)

those are some things to look for...

thanks for the info, would any of the stamping be different on the head? for instance does the b16 head have the same pr3-3 stamp?

the ITR will have larger LMA's and dual valve springs on both intake and exhaust valves (b16/gsr only have them on the intake). You can definately tell if its an ITR by the cams, the ITR's have big vtec lobes, compared to b16/gsr vtec lobes the ITR vtec lobes are noticeably larger. And you can tell by the marks (protruding rings) on the end of the cams (opposite end of the cam gears).
