HELP!..I think I am loosing my engine.. HELP!

Hey,
I've had some back luck today. I pulled into my driveway and noticed that the car was running really shitty. So instinctually I stepped on the gas a little bit, and all I saw was smoke. It seems to be idling perfect in the engine bay, but back at the tip of the muffler it sounds like ****.

So the I need some help here as to what to do next. Can I get a compression test to see if the rings are bad? valve seals maybe? I think the valve cover gasket is gone, but barely.

I haven't let the car cool down yet and start er cold. So I'm waiting to do that. I put oil in last night and the levels were fine.

The engine is a d15b7 completely stock with 230,000kms on it.

Unhappy

your engine is probably full of sludge...

after 33+K without an oil change (which is like driving for more than a year for a lot of people) theres not alot I can suggest.

at the least you might want to try an engine flush, that might help.

By the sounds of it you really don't care about your car or your motor and you're just interested in keeping it running rather than running well.

If thats the case the cheap fix is an engine flush at the minimum, after 33+K it won't make it perfect but you'll probably be able to squeeze a few more months to maybe a year out of it assuming you do regular oil changes in the future.

You're probably right that alot your seals and gaskets are shot.

how much oil do you currently burn/leak on a tank of gas?

My D15's valve seals went and then I dropped a valve. Treated mine like you have actually.
I'll try to help a dude out though, I have a D15 FS cheap if it helps...

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info. I'm one of those guys who doesn't know **** about the engine of his car and is trying to learn. Everyone has to start somewhere. I've been putting off the oil change for ages now because I am too busy to get it done. Either way, it'll go in on Monday for flush and oil change. I'm thinking that it is the valve stem seals. Does anyone know where to get a howto to do this. I hear that its cheap for the seals, just a pain in the *** to do in terms of labor.
As for the poor car. I am planning on a z6 swap soon, but for now I gotta try and keep this engine going. With the new engine, these things won't happen again. Thanks guys again.

but.. but.. i can understand starting somewhere.. but basic maintenence dude.. i mean, C'MON!!

not enough time? its a simple matter of jacking the car up, putting a pan underneath it, untwisting a nut, letting the oil flow out, and replacing it with a larger can of oil. no longer than 10 mins!! or.. goto mr. lube, tell them to change the oil.. takes like 10 mins.. you can read the paper while you do it!!

poor engine.. now i dont feel sorry for my engine..

Damn man.. I feel sorry for your engine.

If you high rev often.. you're better off changing your oil before the regular oil change intervals. If you keep your revs low most of the time.. change at regular.. but ****... 33000 km?!
HOLY ****!

I can understand if you are new when it comes to car maintenance.. but it's written in the car manual when you change oil.... Unless of course you can't read?

Hey Guys,
I went out this morning.

First thing I did was check the oil level. On the stick it was a millimetre under the mark, so that was good. The oil was black.

Second, I started the car up and watched the exhaust for like 3 minutes. It was idling normally and putting out the regular exhaust fumes.

Third, I took a spin up a highway like 2 kms. On the highway while stepping on the gas, their was no fumes whatsoever.

Fourth, I came back and parked into my driveway. I let it sit for a minute and then it started going thump thump thump out of the exhaust, and the engine started sounding like a skidoo like yesterday?

Fifth, I stepped on the gas, and it was more white smoke then blue coming out.

Now I'm wondering if its burning coolant because of the color of the smoke? I have a video of it I took when I was doing this if anyone wants to analyze it. Pm me for it.

oops, you forgot:

Sixth, I read the post, and went to Mr. Lube, got the oil flushed out, and changed, along with the filter.
