Head gasket gone?

Ok, recently my engine needle has been showing overheating at least once a week. I checked everything and noticed my radiator gets empty so i keep filling it back up. I ckecked if it leaks or anything but its not. I was thinking it was my head gasket so i spoke to a mechanic today and said its definatly the head gasket. What do you guys think it could be? Any help would be helpful and thanks.

head gasket is cooked, even if it wasn't before, it is now from the over heating.

depending on the severity of the damage done you can either continue refiling with water/coolant or your engine is gonna soon blow up from all the water getting into the cylinders.

there are products out there that you can pore into your coolant to fiill in the cracks, some say (it was on myth busters as well) that you can use egg whites.

look online there are a tone of solutions. google is your friend.

Had the same problem occur on my 92 eg... it only overheated when I turned off the heater (same as yours?)

I crossed my fingers that it wasn't a head gasket, most likely I'd rather have the engine swapped then re do the gasket... (more than 250ks on the stock d15)...

Does your exhaust blow white? Does it smell sweet? If it does, then it is likely header gasket.

I changed the thermostat, did the coolant change and bled the radiator twice!!!

I also put in this stop leak solution from crappy tire (you never know whether it works, worth it for $5 if it does).

The car works fine now. Every so often though, say after 45 minutes of traffic, it will go above the middle slightly, but no biggie as it only stays there for 2 minutes....

I'm not entirely sure the problem is fully fixed. I'll have to take a long drive in hot weather. But I've tried all I can to overheat the devil, and it won't do it. Also took out the stock air intake and put in a cheesy Shorty this weekend, and it still doesn't overheat.

So try the thermo, coolant change, and bleeding... maybe even the leak solution... after that.. then you worry about addressing the head gasket with engine swap or new gasket...

Good luck buddy!!!!

chances are its your headgasket. Did the mechanic check it out? Or did he just say its your HG? White smoke (coolant burning) out of your exhaust is a good indication that your HG is done

there are tests you can run on your coolant to check for the presence of combustion byproducts in your coolant. kits are sold at canadian tire. also a compression test and leakdown test wouldn't hurt.

pour cool water into the rad and then start the engine, if the water shoots back up in your face then its your headgasket.

check if ur rad fan is working. make sure the fan relay is clicking and then ur thermostat works. if those dont work take it to a shop n get it tested out before making any decisions

Oh another thing ive been noticing and forgot to mention is that my radiator fan comes on every minute for 10secs and than off. Anyways so ive decided not to change it and instead ill just save that cash and do a motor swap i guess.
