grinding noise from water pump

For about the last week or so ive been hearing almost like a grinding or rough sound coming from the water pump, sprayed some wd40 on the belt..sound continues...on the pully from the pump there has always been a small chip...but never affected it. not sure if the belt needs replacing..maybe the pully or the whole pump...anyone come across this situation what do you think/suggest?

Change the pump!!!
Don't drive it until you do!!!
I had a Dodge I bought for $180, we thought the engine was shot because of the grinding. I was driving it to a storage place and the pully fell off the pump. The tow cost (costed, hahahha) more than the car!

because i can hear exactly where its coming from either the pully is making the noise or internally in the water pump...

noises bounce around.

Use a stethoscope. before doing your pump.

check the water pump pulley for any sort of play, if theres ANY replace it while you've got the timing belt off, would also be a good time to do the timing belt if its been a while.

When my water pump crapped out (shortly after the swap) it squealed really loud but only at idle or below 1500rpm, then a few days later i noticed a coolant stain on the timing belt cover right where the water pump is. My water pump pulley/shaft/bearing had a lot of play.
