getting broken screws out

i got all the parts i need for my smashed front end from corey_haymen for $80...only problem is that on one side of the hood the screws for the hinges just broke in half...how can i get them out? havent tried anything yet i still have to drive home.

get a drill and drill it out

or if there is enough of the bolt out of hte hole use vise grips and hopefully the bolt isn't seized

****...i think his bumper filler might be shorter in length then mine...but i thought all 4th gen hatch's were the same

punkindrublic 25-Nov-2003 07:12 PM

they should be... unless it was from a sedan??

imported_EH_94_Civic 25-Nov-2003 07:15 PM

punkindrublic 25-Nov-2003 07:17 PM

doesn't the rear plate screw go into a plastic clip?? If it's seized, just soak it from both front and back (inside the trunk) with WD40 and try to get at it with vise-grips from the inside. Otherwise, just drill it.

shlammed - drilling ALWAYS works, but it's always the last resort. Just centerpunch it, and use a sharp new drill bit.

imported_Cablerat 26-Nov-2003 09:54 AM

^^^ I concur :P

shlammed 26-Nov-2003 11:10 AM

i got those special bits from crappy tire...gonna try drilling with them now

imported_Cablerat 26-Nov-2003 11:14 AM

aren't those just for like threaded heads? dunno if they'd be able to grab enough on a seized screw.

shlammed 26-Nov-2003 11:37 AM

well they didnt work thats for sure...i guess i need a new hood

imported_Cablerat 26-Nov-2003 11:39 AM

even drilling!?

shlammed 26-Nov-2003 11:45 AM

yup

bbarbulo 26-Nov-2003 11:59 AM

you are not trying hard enough... DRILL DAMN YOU! :D

shlammed 26-Nov-2003 12:01 PM

me and my brother in law both tried...time to get a new hood

Notorious 26-Nov-2003 05:06 PM

Try that turn stuff. Even though it smells horrible, hopefully it will help lossen screws. Just keep drilling at it.. eventually it will come out.

punkindrublic 26-Nov-2003 05:59 PM

if you center punched the top of the bolt... and couldn't drill then your drill isn't going fast enough or your bits are dull.... like bruno said drilling always works....

not sure of the specific bolt but you could use a oxy-acetylene cutting torch and blow the thing out.... see picture below
