Gauging Interest: December issue of Import Tuner

Just wondering if anyone read the December issue of Import Tuner?

If so, did you read the article and PowerPages with the Hyper Ground System?

If so, is anyone interested in the Hyper Ground System?

Yah I read it. But kinda skeptical in how that can add HP.

Even skeptical when it was explained in the article?

At first, I was skeptical, just like Import Tuner and XS Engineering was. But after installing it, I was saying why didn't the Japanese bring this to us earlier?

One thing everyone needs to remember is that there is also an electrical system in a car. Power is also loss from its electrical system much like power is loss through mechanical parts. Tuners install pulleys to produce power by freeing up unsprung weight. The Hyper Ground System provides a better ground and electrical circulation on the factory electrical system. Since it is a specially designed wire, it is a better conductor of electricity, thus gaining power that was lost.

So how does that translate into power? The alternator still spins and is a parasitic loss to the engine output. This is a pretty popular mod on the WRX, but I think it's used to stabilize ECU readings cause the ECU is so sensitive that it triggers CELs for no reason (CEL = check engine light) much of the time. My buddy's WRX sends a CEL every time he's on the highway for 20+ minutes. Most of them do that...

It's NOT A POWER ADDER

all it does is regains the lost power from underdrive pullys, which DO create power.

The less resistance from a pully your engine has to deal with the more power it can produce thus underdrive pullys from AEM and unorthodox can be a great way to fre eup more of the power that is being stolen form your engine.

What upgrading your grounds (and all other wires for that matter) does is allows your car to better circulate the power thus making it possible for you to slow your alternator with underdrive pullys.

so

Is this a viable mod?
YES, i have it done to all my cars and will continue to use 4 gauge or greater high strand number wire on my engine grounds and alternator conections not to mention my power links in may areas (headlights and power to the fuse box)

Will it add power?
Only if you install a electric turbo, a tornado and a type r sticker before you hook up this wire setup and then dont forget to put a roll call on the side of your car and get 18" chrome rims that weight more than 40 LBS a peice. If you do all this you will have 500 bolt on horse power and could pobably race my celica for 1000 bucks and win.......wanna try?

he he he!

still i recoment that you ALL do this mod but dont buy a set just mesure up what you need and go to a stereo shop and get all the wire and conections in the colours an dsizes you want and you'll still save money and be able to get some nice wire loom to cover the rest of the wires protecting them from heat and dirt (looms are also a good mod even if they dont create power)


NOTE:underdrive pullys SUCK for you kids running hydrolics or stereos that take alot of power so if you have more than one amp don't even think about using one.

MartinGouda: is the materials of the stock wires different, I've also thought of doing this before, but was not sure. I think the stock wires are better, the strans are bigger.
Ever heard of Sayal, it is a electronic wholesaler that deals with the public also. They have the cheapest wires, but have to buy in large amounts. Not so for 10 gauge or larger.
Just wondering, if you change the headlight wires, does it do anything; make it brighter etc...

I know i am right cause "Physics" are never wrong

strand size is not the issue, conductivity of the wire, as a whole, is all that matters thuse if there are was one large strand or thousands of little strands this may create the same amount of conductivity bu tthey smaller strands will bend better and create more efficent bonds as well as be less brittle and weak.

the only up side to larger strands in a wire is rigity and tha tis not somthing that helps conductivity so again your beliefs are not based on physics but more on hearsay

as for headlights
its not upgrading the size of wires so mush as rerouting the electricity through better paths to the bulbs that will increase brightness (however if your wires are restrictive increasing gauge may help but only a very little bit) a common setup is to wire the power from the positive terminal of the battery directly to a relay that is activated by your stock harnesses this relay then leads DIRECTLY to your lights. (and oh yeah use fuses they save you money on bulbs) as seen here mounted to the side of my girlfriends engine bay.



by creating this more direct, more efficent path the electricity has less resistance and by increasing the wires conductivity you can route more energy to the bulbs. this will allow you to reach the FULL BRIGHTNESS of a 60 or 80 watt bulb even though your stock harness may burn out if you try to put that much current through them (i said may so dont message me about how yours havn't burnt out yet, and trust me they could be brighter)

so my advice about your headlights would be reroute the power as i have stated and you will DEFINATLY NOTICE A HUGE DIFFRENCE (i have pics to prove it) but dont just go out and replace the crappy system honda put in there actually improve upon it.

but what does this have to do with this post and shouldn't this questiuon be more of a lighting question? lets keep this forum performance based. we were talking about power and how these upgraded grounds and what not can help you put more power behind your pedal. so if you have anymore question about how to do the lighting setup i would love to help ya by PM or e-mail

Did you replace your grounds and power or only ground. Would upgrading both power and ground be better. Anything to make my alternator work less is a plus for me. Thanks man. I think I will PM you this weekend when I start to upgrade the wires.

Theres a how to I did last winter on my friends mx-3. Just upgraded the chassis to battery ground, havnt got around to engine to chasis or alternator to chasis.

We used 2 awg.

I used 2 awg welding cable on his. The major diff beween the cheaper welcing cable and car audio wire is strand count and jacket toughness.

But both are negligable. The more strand count would allow the wire to be more flexible, but from my experiences working with it, both have been flexible enough and I never ran into problems.
