Engine & Swap Info
let me start here with a little backround... i have an '88 CRX Si that i want to swap a b16ax into, the x cause im not sure 1 or 2 yet, thats why im posting this thread.
now i know that the b16a1 makes 160hp and the b16a2 170hp. my real question is where does that extra 10hp come from? is it the higher CR (10.2:1 to 10.4:1)? a different ecu? or both? or something else?
if the engine itself is the same, minus the CR, ecu, etc it wont matter in my application anyway because i plan on new lower CR pistons, turbo, and a standalone ecu.
so if the 10hp is 'easy' to make up would you agree its not worth going through the cable to hydro conversion involved with the a2?

1st gen
10.2:1 c.r.
PGM-FI label on the intake manifold with hump on the backside
white connectors
externally connected MAP sensor
Dual-single wire 02 sensor
Cable transmission
OEM oil cooler
Fuel rail has rounded edges
large "DOHC", small "VTEC" on valve cover
2nd gen
10.4:1 c.r.
No PGM-FI label on IM, no hump on the backside
grey connectors
integrated MAP sensor on Throttle Body
4-wire 02 sensor
Hydraulic transmission
Fuel rail has square edges
no OEM oil-cooler
small "DOHC", large "VTEC" on valve cover
The 2nd gens also had an improved cam profile, better oiling characterisitics, larger diameter fuel rail and injectors. I believe the fuel pump was also improved.
