Engine Help. B18C1 vs B18C5

hey guys im planning on doing an engine swap in my crx within a few days, i was going to go with the type-r but ive been told to go with the GSR because the motor itself is built stronger. Can anyone help me out with thier knowledge or experince with these 2 engines?

GSR because of the price and specs.

ITR motors are 198 crank horse power but in ITR's they dyno at 183 or around there at the wheels?

for a 5k swap...183 at the wheels is not something I would want.

GSR motors generally range in the 3000.00 price range and the horsepower figures are not far off from an ITR motor.

if boost is in the future go GSR b/c it has a lower compression to start with. The ITR has a pretty high compression for boost, unless your going forged internals, in which case i'd still buy a gsr b/c its way cheaper, and if you plan on changing the internals it doesn't matter anyways.
The ITR and GSR are basically the same thing, the ITR has better cams, a better intake manifold and throttle body and exhaust manifold, it has dual valve springs on both intake and exhaust valves (gsr only has dual on the intake), the ITR has a factory port job and a LSD tranny. The ITR and GSR share the same crank/rods, block, crank girdle and oil squirters.
The ITR tranny has shorter gears than the GSR and all ITR trannys come with LSD, jdm itr has a 4.785 final drive. The ITR head is completely different than the GSR, the gsr uses the p72 casting whereas the ITR uses the same PR3 casting that the b16 does, but its beefed up a bit.
If you can afford it i'd go with the ITR anyday.

meaning that if you planned on going turbo and building the engine with forged internals (rods/pistons) i would buy the gsr b/c its at least $2000 cheaper and the ITR would offer no benefit over the GSR if the internals were aftermarket. The ITR has high compression pistons (good for n/a) that have a coating on the side of the skirts and cams that have more lift and longer duration (good for n/a). Where as the gsr has a lower compression (good for boost, especially if boostin the stock engine is what you plan on doing) and cams that are decent for turbo.
But if you're planning on staying n/a i'd stick with the ITR. An ITR swap with all of the bolt-ons will satisfy anyones need for speed (for a while at least)

How certain are you with the future plan? Not saying you won't do it but most of the time, we hope for one thing and do another.

Part of me thinks you should get an ITR, get good bolt-ones, and you will have one fun CRX.

it will be "VERY VERY" satisfying indeed if you're already very used to the dx speed..... i was having mad fun.... i actually felt the dual stage IM and the vtec is awesome to hear =)

i drive an ek too haha... and your dx is gonna be lighter than mine, so even more fun... but i'm gonna built it mildly and reach 200whp by june... so it'll be 50 hp at the crank.... then i'll be fully satisfy for now, atleast to me, 200whp on a civic is pretty fun for years to come =)

turbo is even worse. you will constantly be tempted to turn up the boost. then the motor blows and you will spend even more money to build the motor up to handle higher boost.
