As I was reading my good ole' Honda manuel for the hell of it, i noticed it said something along the lines of, no matter what the temperature is outside start your engine and after one minute you can drive. I was always told in winter to warm your engine for 5 minutes or so. In summer and warmer temperature one minute is fine. Anyone have any answers?

are you serious? i hate warming up my car i have no patience however i do it every time for at LEAST 5 minutes...

if thats true it would be great but i think u have to warm up EVERY car...well u dont have to but its better obviosly...i even warm up my beater...

The one minute sounds about right. However, I would recommend driving slowly for the first little bit. I have underground parking so, I don't even wait a minute. I drive below 2,000 RPM until my needle hits the "C" line then, drive normally after that. My area is residential so, I don't have to drive fast for about 10 minutes.
If you are close to a highway, I would warm up the car until you see the temperature needle start to move.
If you are wondering why the manual recommends to drive after a minute, it is because if you drive the car, instead of idling, the engine will warm up faster, the cat will warm up faster, thus reducing emissions.
Also, another thing I do, which isn't always practical, is to keep the HVAC fan off until the engine gets some temperature. Once I see the needle at "C", I crank up the heat. Doing this, also warms up the engine faster.

Yeah, they mentioned that a colder engine wastes more gas. It's no biggy I'll warm up the engine for 2 minutes or so and drive slowly until I see the needle move.

Yeah i usually don't have any patience either. But i too live in a residential neighborhood so i usually drive slow for the first 2 minutes before reaching any major streets.

My parents have never let our civic warm up for 5 min, Im pretty sure. When my mom still had it she would just get in, and let it run for maybe abotu 30 sec, then go. Never had a problem after 204,000 km on it.

Never letting your car warm up? So, that is why there are so many slow civics out there.

I don't care what you do in the summer, but in the winter time when you turn the engine on, pay attention to the rpm, it is alot higher. Some Civics don't have a RPM meter, I know, so I guess you have to figure that one out for yourself.
The reason why Honda said 1-5 mins is b/c some people don't have a RPM meter. But if you do have one, wait for the RPM to reach 1 rpm or less. Obviously, you guys don't give a damn about your car. You will find out later that your car will get slower, and premature wear would happen. I repeat, there are alot of slow Civics out there, I wonder why?????? (sacrasm)

I still remember my 84 Accord EX. It uses Carb instead of FI. If I don't warm up my car for a good 10 mins, it will stall for sure.

With my Civic, depends on the Temp. Winter time, I will warm up my car for at least 5 mins, summer...1 min.

Also I heard it depends on how long your car has been sitting there. If you didn't drive it for a few days, you should warm up your car for all the circulations going back to normal.

I warm mine for maybe a minute for both winter and summer, however I keep the RPM's down until I see the tempurature move up. I also leave the heater off until the car is warm.

I dont have a tach, but I listen by ear to hear when the RPM drop to what normal range is around.

When i feelits about there, then I take off.

A$$ will not feel cold if you drive the 6th Gen prelude or Accord...they got heated front seats which could BBQ your A$$ sometimes!

I start the car and wait for 20-30 seconds and just drive off, regardless of season. Just don't hammer it until you reach full operating temps. There is no need to warm up a car any more than that.
