ek b20 swap
Hey Guys,
I've got a 2000 civic hatch that I'm planning to swap the following motor / tranny package into: b20z + GSR or ITR transmission. Have found a transmission, axles, most of the mounts, shift linkage, clutch, pp, flywheel. A few questions: 1. Can anyone recommend a place in the GTA that sells 99+ b20 longblocks? 2. Are there any other accessories that I might need? Hoping my motor will come with a distributor and starter, but can I re-use my stock ps pump and alternator? Anything else I might be missing? 3. I've got a p28 ecu that I plan to run w/ a conversion harness. Does anyone know if this can run a non-vtec program? Any other advice / am I missing anything? |
can't reuse D-series accessories on a b series, like power steering, a/c etc... maybe the alternator, but that's questionable.
Cablerat can re-chip your ECU if need be. |
the b20z is very hard to find.... and get ready for big machining bills making this all work...
|
I'm planning on using the factory b20 head, so no machine work, right?
-- yep, head. Sorry :D |
by factory b20 you mean b20 head then your fine... if you wanna put a vtec head on it then you gotta do a fair but of machining to prevent that motor from blowing up
|
ah **** sorry i miss read your post  that what happens when you go for lunch time pitcher....
ya you wont need any machining  |
if you are getting 99' b20z
you will need a different intake manifold. the b20z uses the giraffe neck. so find yourself an LS intake manifold or better do you know which harness you plan to use? |

I was hoping to use my stock DX harness, adding any wirings (knock sensor?) and plugs necessary. Bad idea? I thought the 99+ b20s had a lower intake manifold with a plastic resonant chamber on the top? Check this: http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/tech/b20/b20tech.html So where is everyone getting their motors in the GTA? |
Your stock DX harness will do fine.
since its OBD2 already most of the plugs will swap right over onto a B20Z I recommend using your DX ECU as well. you shouldn't need to add any wires. When you find your motor, you'll know if it will fit or not. |
I'd recommend the GSR tranny since the ITR tranny's gears are way to short for the B20... the longest gearing possible is what you want
