Eibach Prokit matched with Stock shocks?
Lookin' to get prokit for my gf's 01 Civic Sedan... with only a 1" drop all around, I'm wondering if it's completely necessary to replace the shocks as well... unfortunately, Koni Red's don't have an application for that car, and yellow's are only inserts and are way too expensive (brand new at least) ... I've been around the block for a while, so I know it's "proper" to find a shock/strut that will match the new springs... but with the minimal drop, is it an absolute must? anyone here have this setup? or a setup with GR2's or something? Tokico?

what's the spring rate..?
if it's nto much more than stock then it might be ok for her for awhile
but I heard that the stock shocks are garbage on those cars
try it out should be fine but maybe look into tokico blues
I woudl just get a low end shock and just do it once instead of pulling suspension twice

not sure what the spring rates are, but ya with a 1" drop, it's as mild as you can get for "sport springs" ... and being progressive, the ride should be alright most of the time... and ya, it's just the doing it twice sorta thing that I'm debating on if I decided to not get shocks now...
there's about 90,000kms on the car now.. if the price for GR2's or Tokico Blues is right, I'll prolly take em...

The stock struts on my 03 are done after being lowered on for only about 2 years and around 30,000k's with H&R Sports which are a mild drop.
I would at least get the Tokico HP. They get great reviews on the 7thGen board as a daily driver type strut. They are not inserts and will bolt right on without modification to an 01.

i believe prokit's are meant to be used with stock shocks. either way eventually they will be worn out and you can get nicer replacements like gr2 or blues.
keep in mind though, 01 civics have a problem with front struts leaking. there is a conditional recall for this and your gf's car might still apply for it.

I think H&R sports are close to a 1.5" drop ... but I could be wrong... how was your ride with the H&R's and stock struts?

conditional recall? how is it being monitored? by vin#/production date? or a car by car basis? there's no way of physically seeing if the struts are leaking? well that's if they were gas.. but I guess OEM is oil...

The problem with the 01-05 Civics is the lack of decent suspension components. Most of them have to be modified slightly to fit correctly. For example, Tokico only made HP's for the 01-02 Civics and they won't fit without mods to an 03-05. The Konis are inserts.

30,000k's maybe. The ride and drop were great. Lately I've noticed a loud banging/rattling sound comeing from the front suspension. The struts may be blown, but I'm also wondering if something is just loose. If I was going to keep the car indefinately, I'd get the Tokico HP's.

i think the pro-kit on stock shocks should be fine, it's a WAAAY milder drop than H&Rs or any other kit out there... the ones from my civic are still being driven on and they don't have a problem to this day that i'm aware of, 4 yrs and about 100K of driving..

it will feel off with stock shocks... in some places your ride will feel harsh and then a little bouncy... when you have lowering springs mixed without the balance is off if you are someone who cares about that. it would bother me driving it a lot.

Ed,
I had prokits on the civic for 2 yrs or so, and then they went on to Taryn's car, and I'm sure she's still riding on them, still no probs ( I haven't talked to her in months now, but i'm always guaranteed to get a call if something went wrong with her car, so no call = no probs )
I honestly never had a 'harsh' ride or anything of the sort... considering the pro-kit drop is SO mild, i'd compare it to driving around with 4 passengers and a driver... even that would probably be lower than the pro-kit to be honest with you.

a couple things:
1) eibach now offers a PRO SYSTEM kit which contains pro-kit springs + "properly tuned" shocks for the application. check their website for info on it. they have them for ek civics (which i'm considering for my car), and they also go one step further and offer one more kit that has sway bars too for added suspension options. hopefully they'll have an application for your 01 sedan.
2) tein springs in general are cheaper and i've heard nothing but good news about them, however do note that tein springs only have a 1-year warranty, whereas eibach products have a 10 year (or more?) warranty. also for ek applications h.tech springs are less of a drop in the front, but the spring rate is lower... so i wouldn't be surprised if h.tech springs "sag" more than pro-kit springs.
most/all of my research is based on setups for ek civics (since that's what i drive) so check out the spring rates/drops/warranties for your application.
best o luck!

hahah, she'll call you if there are problems? serious? lol
well, thing is I have a gut feeling Sharon's struts are blown, or are going... cuz I saw her driving across a parking lot and the thing was bouncing around pretty bad... but then again I'm picky, driving the car, I notice slight bouncing too...
