If you build right the first time you wouldn't have exhaust leaks, oil leaks etc...:p

ok i dont know where any of you are getting your prices 400 for clutch and pressure plate?

fidn out whats wrong witht he motor 1st if its just your head gasket going rings, or just wear and tear

and then motor gasket set is about 120( if you get a good price like me) or 240 at the store
a stage 2 cltuch and pruser plate i just got brand new for 280

rebuild is very simple

all you need is about 2-3 days and you can rebuild the head your self to mint shape other then a acid bath you have to get done and a resurfecing ($70)

if you find it to be just the head

i say 500 tops

get your self a new timing belt new gasket set, new water pump
and rebuild it your self

Felpro gasket set i got for 120 on ebay with shipping btw
works great matched it to the same one a proformance shop was gonan sell for 300 for me soo there you go

120 for gasket set
100 for belt
100 for water pump ( i dont even think its close to that much)
70 for haveing head acid tanked and resurfaced
and then do the valves and and springs your self witha bench grinder(with a wire bruch wheel on it)

I did it works perfect, and i'm sure every one seen the rebuild cadsii did a while ago had pics posted like crazy

motor ran better then anything and he didnt even have it tanked

so if you wnat do it your self
if not get a motor for $500 d series dont for get a 24 of beer and slap it in 1 day of work tops if for the swap and thats with drinking

imported_rafaln 25-Jul-2006 12:31 PM

and as for boosted d i have never seen any problems as long as you have ti done right and you arent stupid with it if you jsut slap on a turbo and do nothing to the motor other the fule then ya i dont recommand it running over 4-6

but if you do some work to the d motor i have seen them go as good as 10sec at the strip if you want to know anything aobut d www.d-series.org i'm pretty sure thats the site

it all depends quality work and quality parts are the major thing
but knowing how to drive it is another thing that you need to learn. any one can blow a motor the key thing is to learn how to get it not to blow

Call honda and ask how much their clutch/pressure plate/release bearing/pilot bearing is.
So you went through all that trouble and didn't even replace the valve seals or do a "real" valve job? Not much of a rebuild if you ask me.
Ask anyone who's really rebuilt an engine, it doesn't cost $500. Rebuilding a head (the proper way) will cost a lot more than $500. Hell a valve job alone (not just grinding the carbon off the valves) costs around $300 from a reputable machine shop. Then if the head needs valve guides or valve seals replaced you'll be over your $500 mark just in machine work, not including any cleaning/resurfacing required.

buy it!

screw rebuilding a y8:D

civ99 27-Jul-2006 09:08 PM

Buy my turbo kit
I have boosted 3 civics so far. 2 d sohc series and one zc dohc
I NEVER had a problem with the sohc or the dohc
The last d series I boosted made 174 wheel hp at about 7.5psi
I used a p28 ecu chipped for boost. It was tuned on a wide band. I never experienced detonation. As long as the motor has good compression (a leak down test is a good indicator or engine health)

As others are saying, tuning is the key!!!
