for the sohc lovers out there. why do people like the d16a6 block so much? is it better than the z6 block or something? oh and one more question. do the sohc vtec valve covers only come on the d15b? i've never seen any d16z6 with VTEC on the valve cover.

my d16z6 in my 95 ex coupe said vtec on the valve cover.

The z6 should be better than the a6. I remember reading the z6 oil pump was the best out of all the d16's.

yeah i hear the y8 oil pumps are more prone to failing at high rpms than the z6 oil pumps. the search function on d-series.org sucks *****. i tried to search about why the d16a6 is so good.


thanks for the replies, i shall go hunt for a valve cover that says vtec on it. its just personal preference.

I think the D16a6 has higher compression then the latter. I remember reading somewhere on honda-tech that swapping the pistons in a Z6/Y8 will increase compression.....how many points specifically, i forgot.

Doesn't the EL valve covers have Vtec on them?

A6 has better block main than any other D engines out of the factory. I had one and was going to build on that slowly but my decision changed.

I think 92-93 d16z6 just say honda
While the 94-95 says Honda Vtec

yeah i was going to go non vtec NA but now i've decided to go d16z6-T . how much should i expect to pay for a valve cover?

anyone know if an edelbrock intake manifold off a d16y8 would fit a d16z6? i looked on the site and the part numbers were different but i was just wondering because i can get one for cheap.

I remember reading somewhere that the A6 block was stronger, and was better for turbo applications if you weren't going to do any work on teh bottom end....but I don't remember where I read that (probably honda-tech), so take it for what its worth

no the y8 manifold will not fit an a6

i think I remember seeing a z6 IM gasket and it was different than y8 gasket.
