Question cold air intakes

yeah so i'm shopping around for a CAI now there are a lot of choices of course. I have found a great deal on a ractive CAI for 100$ cash pretty cheap. Kepp in mind this is going on my 91 civic in the bumper area where i have a cutout for forced air induction. Having the filter mounted in the bumper are and opening in the bumper adds a ram air affect. I am looking to purchase a CAI just don't want something cheap and nothing expensive. I know there isn't much of a diffrence in the piping, all the same 2.5 inch dia , aem does however have their pipes coated in thermal resistant paint. This paint can be purchased at crappy tire for a few bucks. By buy the ractive intake i can save some cash and also buy this paint to give it a few coats to keep the hot air out. also i have a k&n filter which i will use with it cause those ractive filters are junk. I heard injen is very good, any other anyone would highly recommend?? This will be used on my zc motor not stock. i 'm not too picky with the look more with max power gains

I have a Ractive CAI(not short ram) and its pretty good. It does get kinda hot,but my friend (jaysi) has one for his '97 Civic and its always cool(WTF)?
The cool thing about mine is that it comes in 2 pieces so you can take the bottom off and make it into a short ram intake.
Not too bad for the price...
Mine is blue!

I dont think the ractive and AEM are the exact same pipe. AEM has there bedns a bit diff, and the pipe is cut in a diff place than the ractive. I dont know if that affect performance, but id buy ractive.

Why spend the $300 for AEM when i doubt you would feel the diff if you got 2 extra hp from it.

I bought the AEM CAI, the one for my car comes in a two peice and I love it.

I sooner spend a little more money and have peice of mind. I had comments too that my AEM is louder than other people's CAI.

AEM Cold Air system
Cold Air and Short Ram Air Induction Systems
AEM pioneered the Cold Air induction system for sport compact cars. Their Cold Air and Short Ram air induction systems create more power than any other systems of their kind. their Cold Air induction systems relocate the filter outside of the engine compartment for a cooler intake charge. In most cases our Short Ram systems are an economical underhood alternative to our Cold Air systems.

Every AEM air induction system is individually tuned in length and diameter, and features the highest standards of construction—we even guarantee them for the life of your vehicle. Every AEM system is either C.A.R.B. exempt, or pending C.A.R.B. exemption (50-state legal).
Cold Air and Short Ram Key Features:

* Outperform every comparable intake system on the market
* Every system is C.A.R.B. exempt, or pending C.A.R.B. exemption (50-state legal)
* Utilize a complete hardware kit with soft mounts for a guaranteed perfect fit
* Available powdercoated in Blue, Red, Silver and a unique Maintenance-Free Polished finish
* One-piece, four-layer, cotton-gauze AEM air filter eases installation and features an exclusive air horn design that improves performance
* Comprehensive installation instructions,AEM decals and license plate frame included
* Manufactured and assembled in the USA
* Limited lifetime\

Does "Ractive" come with a lifetime warrenty?
I choose AEM over Ractive anyday. I had a Ractive short ram then switch to an AEM cold air. Lets just say ractive wasnt as good.

The CARB sticker is of no use to us up here.......only in the STATES.

I posted an explaination this, from this book.....

Any type of pipe that draws in colder air than the factory one, is better than nothing.....Save your cash for the TYPE R sticker....get the RACTIVE one.......don't worry, Ractive only puts thier name on it.

I posted a thread called....AIR INTAKE FOR $10.
ANYTHING that reduces to restriction in air flow, will help in thr HP dept.

read it.

http://www.torontocivics.com/tccforu...ight=For+%2410

AEM this......RACTIVE that....bla....bla....bla......

Depending on the mods you have done.........any air intake will help........how much help? Well......until you Dyno the car before AND after EACH mod you do...you will NEVER learn what improvements it gave you. A CAI would benifit a B16 or B18, better than it would a D15 or D16. That's obvious.....

I'll tell you what....I'll go to HD and pick up some pipes and clamps......you go get your AEM..........you install your AEM......I'll install my creation..........then we'll go over to a dyno........what kind of numbers do you think when see if we install both(one at a time) on the same car? Not too much of a difference.....well.....not enough that most people would notice.

Egh that's too much work, finding all the parts, making sure they fit together, then screwing it up and having to buy all the parts again, if I did it I'd probably screw it all up and end up paying more, PLUS waste al that time trying to make it.

I do have a question though, just how big a tube are you going to use? What material? Aluminum? and How exactly are you going to bend that tube pray tell?

Plus if I were to make one for my my car I'd have to make that little stray like tube for the breather tube from the valve cover.
I hear aluminum welding is a bitch. You going to build one of those too?

I don't mean to be factious but do you realize the undertaking it would require to build this thing?

I'd rather have someone else design one, tune it, prove that, and have a warranty.

However if you really are going to build your own, can I come and watch/help?
