coilovers & shocks.. or springs and shocks

I have Tein coilovers on my MR2, and if I had to do it all over again, I'd just go with a shock/spring combo on all my cars. An H&R/Koni combo works great and is more than adequate for everyone but the *hardcore* track racer (not occasional lapper). Take the $200+ and put it into other worthwhile mods (ie swaybars).

It all depends on where you're going to be using your car. Coilovers tend to offer a harsh ride in comparison to lowering springs because the lowering springs are generally a progressive rate spring whereas the coilovers are a single rate. Coilovers are really more suited to track applications (more adjustable).

What should I use on a 98 civic coupe if i am not going to do any track racing. Maybe just some spirited driving around the Tdot. I want to have alot of heaight adjustability so I can get it to look exactly the way I want it with the rimes im going to get. I have heard that the Tein SS was a good suspension setup. What setup should I look at?

Generally speaking... the average driver can't really tell the difference between any of these combos.... I'll bet you'd be just as happy with KYB AGX under H&R Sports. Most ppl can't really tell when they are under or over dampened. I had a buddy... my car had less than 5000kms on it, no modifications yet...and he tells me I need new shocks. I almost slapped the taste out of his mouth. 
Most ppl just don't know...they talk out of their ***. So buy whatever suits your budget. I'd say spend as much as you can afford on shocks, and get used springs in the classifieds. 
Put the rest of the money towards a sway bar for the rear.

btw, is KYB shocks good? my friend told me Tokico and Koni shocks are raising their price or soemthing... he said KYB is probably the best for its price right now
I'm going for just shocks and springs. Coilover are so fxxking expensive... don't want to cry with an empty wallet.....

It depends on what your using your car for. Iif you drive threw the winter then I would go for a coilovers/shocks combo like I have. If you plan on storing your car in the winter then I would definately go for the shocks/springs combo.
I had eibach springs and I will never go back with them, I hate those springs so much and has such a terrible ride and quality in my car and it was very jumpy, when I installed my R1's the ride was much smother. Bbarbulo says there is no difference but there is a huge difference in different types of springs especially with h&r's and eibachs, the coiling between the two are much different. H&R springs are much better springs and if you ever chose to go with springs I strongly suggest H&R or Neuspeed springs.

Well, you have to know what you're buying...progressive or constant rate springs. If you don't know the difference, then you shouldn't be lowering your car. You have to understand what you will realistically use your car for, then go from there. I've been through 4 suspensions to find the one I like.... I have H&R coilovers now.
