that right there is a classic symptom for a engine that runs rich... what mods does your engine have - ECU, fuel press reg... anything that would alter fuel delivery. it's also safe to say you could use a new O2 sensor, but that is NOT the reason the CEL is coming on. Also, it would help if you pulled the code that's giving you the fault - you know, bridge the two contacts and count the number of light flashes. it could also be a EGR fault too.

oh, and if post whoring gave Rick sexual powers, he'd be like Hugh Heifner by now

any idea what code the ECU is throwing this would aid troubleshooting greatly... and yes the mods you have would also help

EGR in a ZC?

Do like Bruno said, bridge the contact.

Around the passenger foot area, right below glove box, you should find a lil bracket with 2 clips plugged into it. 1 is a 3pin clip and the other a 2 pin.. bridge the 2 pin clip. Turn key to ignition and read the code off the engine light. 1 long flash = 10's, 1 short flash = 1's.. so 1 long and 2 short flashes = 12!!

You may have more than 1 code, so if it jumps back to long flashes make sure it's not another code or if it's just looping around and giving the same code again..

Well, he does have a 92, so I'm assuming it's the 2nd gen ZC that I heard very little about.... other than that it exists.

Stock 5th gens don't have EGR.. I may be confusing it completely..

I know the accords and lude have em.. Don't think the 2nd gen integra did either.

EGR is mandated by OBD1 on all 92+ vehicles.... I'd be very very .... very surprised if they didn't use an EGR.

I don't think my there was any EGR system on my 93 SI..

I know my h22 motor had egr but with the chip it's all bypassed.

OH, but I believe you are wrong....

so I went and searched, and I searched... here is ONE little sign that it does exist:

1993 Honda Civic Si Hatchback 3D L4-1.6L 1590cc F/I VIN D16Z6
EGR Valve Gasket
• Usually ships in 7 - 10 business days. BECK/ARNLEY Part # 039-1012

By my logic, if there is a EGR valve gasket, there by default must be an EGR valve

When I run the stock ecu I get the check engine light coming on under two conditions 1) running the engine to redline repeatedly, or 2) constant engine speed driving. I could turn off the engine and restart the car and the code would be reset. I believe the code was related to a knock sensor not being there and the engine running a little rich (not a problem with the chipped ecu). I don't know your setup, but I hope this information leads you in the right direction.

Curious if your EGR is completely wired up with sensor...

BTW is your 22 JDM or USDM...

It's all wired up, but not doing anything.. When I originally ran a P13 ecu (JDM Prelude) it never thru an EGR code..

It's a JDM spec motor.

oh and it's an ODB1 motor, 92-96 model..

EGR does not affect performance, but it affects EGT, which can in turn lead to detonation and melted pistons.... high EGTs produce high NOx emissions, so the engineers had an idea to introduce some exhaust into the intake to lower EGTs but at this moment I forget exactly how it works in theory so I'll go no further...
