CAI install

Just got myself a CAI for my 94 hatch and i am just wondering what way is the easiest to install the filter and lower pipe.
do you have to remove the splash gaurd and go up from the bottom or do you have to go in through the wheel well? and will it make much of a diff if i use the stock cheapo filter they supply or shall i get a K&N?

take off the front bumper...its easier to install with the bumper off...11 bolts thats it...5 on top with the retainer, 2 screws on each fender, and 2 on the underside about 30" apart / 8 inches in

well you don't need to take the bumper off thats for sure. Just pull out the inner wheel well cover. Well first obviously you need to remove all of the stock intake duct. Then install the top part of the intake to the throttle body. Then remove the wheel well lining. Then connect the bottom section of the pipe to the top portion with the coupling provided with the intake. And then thorw the filter on. This took me about 40 minutes.

I guess it depends on how fast you are at it...I can have my bumper off in about 2mins...

so going through the wheel well is the best way.

also will a K&N air filter make a difference in emissions or will I not notice. i need to have my emissions test done and i figured instead of just changing the air filter i would upgrade it.

K&N all the way. You can clean them over and over, and with a cold air intake you need to clean it often. The other crappy filters fall apart after you clean them. K&N's are worth the money.
It won't affect emissions at all so don't worry.

even if its one piece or 2 piece u should still remove the bumper to istall it. see you air filter will not fit through the sheet metal

you don't have to put the air filter on before you intall the pipe.
Install the two pieces of the pipe and then through the wheel well, you don't even need to pull the whole liner out you can just pull the part where the filter is down, put the filter on the pipe. Viola....no need to remove the bumper.

well thats what i was figuring but i was thinking on attaching the filter to the bottom pipe first that way i dont have to dick around with a screw driver in the wheel well tighten the filter. then i could make the final connection under the hood.

i was also concerned with the old intake tubing. it feels like it is in there solid. will i be able to remove all the lower portion through the wheel well as well???

yeah, its just a bunch of bolts holding the stock intake duct in there. You don't need to take it out through the wheel well.
