budget for motor swap !! ~~

 budget around 2000 - 2500 CDN, which motor is good for swap ?? at the other post, ppl are talkin' about the B20, but i think it cost about 3000+ plus installation !! so, i want to cut some budget to 2000+. Any suggestion?? ~~ :shrugs:

b18b some scrapyard here in qc sell complete 98-99-00-01 kit for 2000$ not installed but its so easy to DIY

punkindrublic 25-Jul-2003 01:43 AM

a b20 swap isn't terribly expensive pending you are using the motor stock... ie no vtec head.... you could probably get the motor itself for 1000... then get a gsr tranny for maybe 500 or more.... and your set.... might need little things along the way too though

bbarbulo 25-Jul-2003 08:29 AM

$500 for a GSR tranny?? Does that come with gears inside it :p

A b20 swap will cost you $3000 in stock shape, if not more.

Why not save a little more and get a better swap done? Else, you are looking at D16Z6 or D16Y8...not very exciting stuff.

Nova_Dust 25-Jul-2003 11:44 AM

Keep saving my friend.

bbarbulo I think it depends on whether or not the dude is doing the labour himself ... if he isn't then yes it would cost around 4G's in my book if he's doing it himself and is willing to wait to get a good deal on parts it could be done for 2500 .....

bbarbulo 25-Jul-2003 02:02 PM

To get a complete JDM B20 isn't cheap by any means. To get a USDM, it's a peice it together kinda deal... which ends up costing much more than buying one outright... cuz USDM B20s need the LS intake, and some sort of manual tranny, then shift linkage, mounts, engine harness possibly, axles, ECU, and a mess of other things. These things never seem to stop on budget somehow...

imported_gatherer 25-Jul-2003 02:20 PM

you have a poiunt there ... however why can't you use the b20 intake, won't the engine breathe better with it?

bbarbulo 25-Jul-2003 02:24 PM

How many times have we been through this :) LOL USDM B20 has this massive super tall manifold that clears the SUV hoodline but will bend your Civic hood in half when you shut the hood. Need the low profile B18B intake manifold.

LOL^^

But ya at around your budget you can probably get a b18b installed for that price which runs quite well in a 5th gen hatch. When this topic comes up everyone jumps on prices for just the motor alone, don't people ******* think of swapping engine harnesses, shafts, shifter linkages, ecu's, pending on the tranny and what car it's going into, distributors, mounting kits, installation!!. No one thinks about these things, it's not going to magically go right in and drive off

It's not?? But that's what they show on that Import Tuners TV or whatever the show is called :p I thought it was like a 1/2 hour thing, just like in the show...

imported_My Blue Si 25-Jul-2003 02:52 PM

:haha: I wish :)

Nova_Dust 25-Jul-2003 03:24 PM

I think it is faster the 1/2 hour.... they tell you they gonna swap, then the next frame, volla, it is done.

gcivic 26-Jul-2003 06:33 PM

i'd spend that money for a custom turbo set up, your sohc with a turbo would be running better than people with b16 or b18 i don't know if it's capable of beating an h22 but it's good enough.

imported_22hatch 27-Jul-2003 01:55 AM

for $2,000-2,5000 its really not worth your time and money to do the swap, your not gonna be happy with what you get. just keep saving man. good luck.

shiroiEGroku 27-Jul-2003 11:31 PM

okie.. i got what u guys mean !! i know the budget is little less ..

imported_dented dx 28-Jul-2003 01:05 AM

i say build a mini me and once you have the parts, use your money for internals. thats where you get your gains

imported_eth0r 28-Jul-2003 02:13 PM

imported_zc_hatch 05-Aug-2003 09:55 PM
