boosting my buddies 2003 sedan.

alrite well my buddy is boosting his 03 civic sedan with a 1.7 liter engine. we just want to know a few things before he goes along with this project.

-how much boost can he run on stock internals???

-how much power can he expect with a custom manifold and a t3/t4 turbo running 94 octane????

wat is the compression for the 1.7 non vtec????

thanx a lot.

how does he plan fuel management? prolly about 7 psi safely with decent tuning, and expect about 180-190 wheel hp.

I'm just giving prolly conservative estimates here.

for fuel management hell probably run 550 injectors itr fuel pump ( maybe a walbro) and for the ecu whatever the guys use at the tunning shop.

there is no tuning sol'n for the 7th gen as far as I know... I think those guys run standalone (AEM, Greddy) or they run piggyback like the AFC hack? best place to check is the 7thgen forums. I dunno much about engine management for the new gens

If you go with the AFC hack, then you shouldn't really run more then 10 psi. That would be one limiting factor. The other limiting factor are the internals, which un-upgraded will be limited to ~200whp.

If you run a standalone, which is expensive, you will not be limited by your tune, so it would make sense to make the most of your engine, and up the internals. In which case, power depends on the size of your wallet.

your internals limit the hp figure. the tune is just to make sure it doesn't blow up before it's physical limit. bad tune puts undue stress on internals... good tune only makes sure your **** doesn't self destruct. but at a certain WHP level, rods are gonna bend anyways or rod bolts are gonna snap, etc.

meh.. this is why no body boosts these cars. standalone is way too much, and the hack is just that. A hack way of tuning.

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to swap a K20 into it? Turbo'ing my old 03 was the last thing I ever thought about doing.

I agree with dumbassi, get a K20a2 in there. Personally, if I were to choose between boosting my car or a K swap, I'd do the swap for sure. However, I'm not looking to do either to my ride.

well hes considered going k swap many times and boosting maybe even more times but because we both know a guy that will get him an amazing deal on practically a complete kit intercooler, t3/t4 turbo which is only 1.5 years old no play no leaks and is mint , turbo smart waste gate and 550 injectors all he will need is a manifold, bov, piping and a tune. So basically all major parts are out of the way and hes getting that for around 1000. then he needs a manifold.... and a good tune and hes ready for roll. He tells me that all he wants is 200whp so for a few months at least i know he will be content.

i would say go k swap if he had aound 8-10 g's lieing around but because we ar eboth full time students and dont have 10 grand hes decided to go boost.

k20a2 only goes for around 2-3grand tops.
