b20's

I would just like to clarify a couple things with b20 vtec setup.

1. b20 blow up after a year, myth/fact.

2. b20 have ****ty rods and cranks ) if heard the use the same ones from a 1.8 gsr) myth/fact

3. b20 are not meant to rev past 7800rpms ( from my point of view with my head built with all skunk 2 i have a b20 and rev to 9 no problems so far.) myth/fact.

imported_Lonely Racer 05-Jul-2006 11:51 PM

the don't blow up........ it deppends a lot on the driver the can last for years like any thing right, well im not sure about the crank but i belive the rods are longer....... so the don't take as much abuse as let say a b18 or a b16 would take.
its save to rev it at a stock b20 at 7500rpm u can go higer if u want but remember longer stroke it not ment to rev hige like 9000 stock any why's im sure as long as u keep an eye on a feve things u could rev it liek a mad man on a stock block but not recomended... and deppends which block u had if u have the b20b i belive the have teh b18 sleves but bored out thats hwy the where getting crakt blocks the redid them whit the b20z it was a better block then the b20b. im sure one else has soem tihng else to say and what i tell u might be wrong but i guess its better then nothing for now lol
the b20's where made to make torqe not to rev like snot.

b's are played....got k?

imported_SaYjAiBaO 06-Jul-2006 12:44 AM

^^ bragger. lol listen, not everyone can afford to dump THAT much money into their cars all at once.

b20b and b20z are the SAME blocks. the only difference between them is that the pistons are different. that would explain the power difference between the two. b20s can be very reliable, it all depends on the builder who builds it. they can be revved to 9 grand with no problem but you just have to find cams that will make power that high. just dont rev that high from stop light to stop light. it puts a lot more stress on the cylinder walls because of the longer stroke. nonvtec blocks don't have oil squirters like the vtec blocks do to cool the pistons down more either. however, these are proven builds and theres crazy fast b20vtec outs there all over north america. i'd do this if it were for drag and daily driving, not road racing though.

imported_plzbeleiveit 06-Jul-2006 01:08 AM

basically i have a b20 with all skunk 2 internals i can rev to 9 no problem but theres big debates when it comes down to what i listed above. my b20 has a custom oil line comming from the head and hooking into block. as for hp im about 198hp/ 149 ftp according to my last dyno pull. i have no problem for a b20 for my daily driver at all.

Xscorpio 06-Jul-2006 01:46 AM

it all really depends on the driver as mentioned above. and yes Ks are over rated and way over priced

imported_SaYjAiBaO 06-Jul-2006 02:13 AM

i wouldnt go that far and say k is overated...they are over priced but by far not over rated.

imported_plzbeleiveit 06-Jul-2006 04:01 AM

k20 = $9000 = 200 whp, pay 9000 for a booster type r = 3x more whp than k20.

imported_Lonely Racer 06-Jul-2006 06:32 AM

on the b20z yes the pistons are diff but i also belive the cyl walls are also ticker then the b20b's am i wrong?

imported_plzbeleiveit 06-Jul-2006 06:35 AM

b20 z the walls are joined were the b20bs are not all b20s are 84 mm bore copared to 81mm like sir or gsr or itr.

yeah, they are overrated. i mean it still takes over $10K to make sick power. there are 240whp B20V motors popping up all over. and, its still being built at almost 1/3 the price of a K. so, yes, to pay $10K for 220whp is rediculous. so, in the end K is overreatd. right now, the most powerful K makes only 10-20whp more than wigged out B's.

imported_SaYjAiBaO 06-Jul-2006 09:09 AM

if you were to go pay someone to do it yeah it's 10k. it can be done for as cheap as 6. the k will make more power throughout the whole powerband compared to a b series and be more reliable at the same power levels. i understand you guys like your b's but k's are better. just because the b can make peak power close to k, it doesn't make k overrated. if it were so overrated a lot of people wouldn't be doing it. i've personally sat in 4 k powered cars this year and know of 4 more being done. how long has k been in the market compared to b? there's a lot more research and development put into the b series powerplant but companies like ips are already creating sick products for the k series. if you were to pay someone to do all the work like building the motor and installing it, you would come close to the same thing as doing a k. of course 8.k you've given me a break down on the cheap prices before but the same goes with the prices on k20s. theres ways you can get by things and save a whole lot doing it all by urself. please i don't want to turn this into a k vs. b thread.

Its funny u say that, yet when cscs rolls around all the k's guys stay home? Why is that?
h22 Bets bang for the buck period.

imported_plzbeleiveit 06-Jul-2006 10:58 PM

in my b series motor i put approx 3.5grand building the motor yet i run 13.8. id like to see a h22 in a 92 integra run that. on top of that i ran a 13.8 with stock heads, exhaust, intake manfold, camgears. basically everything stock except my cams.

imported_plzbeleiveit 06-Jul-2006 11:15 PM

And your saying u ran a 13.8 with a stock b20?

zeeman 06-Jul-2006 11:19 PM

b/c you know its true....B-series owns joo!!!:richslap:

I'd take a b20vtec over a h22 in any car anyday (but thats just IMHO)
If i had $10K i'd love to build a K, but for $5000 i'll build a monster B and tune with crome.....crome alone is worth staying with the D/B/H series.
