B16A swap

I just have a few questions regardaing a B16a swap into my 96 cx hatch.

Does one get an aftermarket cat when they do this swap?? (because my current exhaust manifold has the cat built in)

Will an SIR cluster work plug an play?? (even though it was auto before)??

Any help is greatly appreciated. (especially form those that have done this swap in a 6th gen)

Thanks in advance

Yes, you'll have to get a cat welded into the exhaust system or else you get into trouble for running with no cat.

As for the cluster.. it should be plug and play.

I was wondering how i would go about solving to issuse that have been bothering me for some time>

1St: My Gas pedal is quite stiff in my 1996 CX hatch which strikes me as odd as my firend has a 96 dx and the pedal is very eas to depress.

My question is that I will be geting a b16 swap done in my car within a week soo will the swap remedy the problem or will I still have a stiff gas pedal?? (this won't be so fun as I can imagine it will make driving harder as my car is currently auto but will be converted to 5spd.)

2nd: Has anyone done a similar conversion in 6th gen (i.e. auto-manual &b16) if so what snags did you or your installer run into or what should I make sure he does in order to ensure trouble free opperation??

3rd: I will be also be swapping my cluster (auto with no tach) to teh SIR. Sometime my current cluster cuts in and out (i.e. it will drop to 0 and then resume to the normal speed) Iwas wondering if this will be rectified when i do my b16 conversion or should i pay my installer more to address these problems??

I appologize for such a long post but these things really get to me and any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance KS-R you sound like you really know your stuff!!!

If you're doing auto-to-manual you shoudl replace your entire pedal assembly - gas, brake, clutch - as well as the throttle cable so this should fix any "stiff" pedal problem you have right now.

As for your cluster, you should look for any new or used (used is cheaper) 6th gen Civic cluster with tach - EX, SI , SIR or it's JDM equivalents... a motor swap isn't gonna cure your current cluster problems... just buy a new one with a tach.

And yeah, KSR better know his stuff... he does this sh*t for a living

I have the cluster already (SIR) i wnt to know weather the problem is with the VSS or the cluster itself.

Any ideas where I could get the whole pedal assembly in good condition for a fair price.

If you could post names and #'s places you know of that would be of great help because I need to get this done a cheaply as possible as i'm already over budget.

Thanks for your help thus far Jugglez and PLEASE keep those responses comming!!

90efghb had this problem, could be the speedo cable as well

This is because of a defective cluster I think

Chances are the cable itself needs lubricating... or perhaps the pedal assembly does. But like Jugglez said you'll need to replace the whole assembly and cable for the auto2manual B16 conversion.. So you shouldn't have a problem

Haha.. I hope the shop you're getting your swap done at has done auto2manual conversion for a 6th gen... It's basically the same for all the generations, but the 6th gen requires a little more work. But the good thing is the shifter console between the auto and manual are the same.. all you need to do is get the shift boot.. not like the older generations where the console is completely different.

Chances are.. the VSS needs to be replaced.. but again.. with the B16 swap.. it should cure the problem

Thanks... I guess it comes with experience
