first question:
if i have a d16z6 motor, i must look for an alternator that is specifically for the d16z6 motor? OR, can i take any other alternator and put it in???

second question:
smoke coming out of engine when i start the car... i just got the car recently... i done all the body work... my cousin was about to start working on the brakes... but when we start the car today, we see some smoke... what is possible to be wrong?

Smoke from under hood? Valve cover leaking? Oil smell or electrical smell?

electrical smell from what i smelled... nothing like oil... the engine was clean, don't see any oil stain...

can you pinpoint the area where the smoke came from? check for bad block ground, loose starter wire, or another heavy gauge wire. Maybe have someone start it while you look.

yeah... i did it today... i saw it... the alternator seized... the belt is out of place and came off....

how much is an alternator?

where do you live? I know a rebuilder in whitby who is very good. Even honda alternators aren't bad for price. stay away from crappy tire rebuilds. the job is enough of a pain without having to do it twice.
