Just so what happened to me doesn’t happen to you, make sure your rubber isolator is installed properly, and the tube cannot make contact with the unibody, otherwise you get a nice hole like this:

imported_gatherer 21-Nov-2003 04:54 PM

my tube also started to strach the paint but I didn't get a hole in it ...

Biggy 21-Nov-2003 04:54 PM

holy ****!!!! what the hell happened

imported_94EG6HB 21-Nov-2003 04:54 PM

A big sticker will fix that right up...

Ouch..

DumbasSi 21-Nov-2003 05:58 PM

Mine started to do the same thing. I just went to Home Depot, and bought a piece of rubber the same diameter as the pipe, and put that around the area that was rubbing.

yeah im gonna fix it over the winter...right now im cutting my pipe into a short ram..

hey jeff, the pipe was rubbing on the edge of the hole where it went down into the fender..rubbed every time ya hit the gas cause the engine shifts..

spracingsports 22-Nov-2003 11:52 PM

crap, well will it help if i make the hole bigger b4 i install mine? or line the hole with a rubber gasket?

PULOVR 23-Nov-2003 12:46 AM

I would do what DumbasSi did.

If you make the hole bigger, it will probably start to rust faster.

imported_Syphon 23-Nov-2003 03:17 PM

Mine doesn't have a hole yet, but a nice gouge.

crappy quality, but my digicam is not here now, so webcam it is! that little blackish mark is a small gouge, maybe 3-4mm deep. It happens..

imported_05CivicSi 23-Nov-2003 07:05 PM

cover it in rubber if you can, and i am considering grinding down the sharp egde around the hole, so it wont cut the rubber, and of course painting it when im done

imported_TurboSupra12 23-Nov-2003 07:10 PM

geez that sucks... i'm glad i don't have an AEM

Biggy 23-Nov-2003 07:54 PM

holy crap thats brutal, glad i got a short ram hehe

Ovcoursits Silv 23-Nov-2003 08:38 PM

What you're all hearing are the stories of AEMs that were rubbing. I've had mine in for over 2 years and it's still perfect. No need to widen the fender hole. Like 92civ said, just make sure it's properly installed and doesn't come loose.

n1_taboo 24-Nov-2003 12:34 PM

for the love of G

lordm 25-Nov-2003 11:12 AM

your licky you found the problem now and not later on

imported_94EG6HB 25-Nov-2003 12:23 PM

cant you guys use the existing gasket betweern the upper airbox and lower resonator to prevent this?

bbarbulo 25-Nov-2003 12:31 PM

no such thing on most of our cars Aaron - we generally have to cut a massive hole there

imported_05CivicSi 25-Nov-2003 10:39 PM

yeah for newer civics, but for the 5th geners the is a hole where the stock airbox assembly goes through..

Aaron, as for the gasket, never thought of it, but i believe it may have been samwiched between the airbox and resonator..

and bond..i sure am "licky"

i am just gonna get another rubber sleeve to cover the hole..so i need 2 of them now..one for the hole and one for the cut i made (its a short ram for now)..or maybe a bypass..who knows..
