Because lets all face it....no matter how much you know about any car the only thing that makes it go faster is your WALLET.

done rant
Ignorance abounds. I should hit 14's this year with less than $200 invested(obviously not including the car cost) in my neon this year. Only minor weight reduction.

No amount of money can make up for lack of intelligence. If you think money is the only way a car goes faster, better go pick up some iridium sparkplugs, and a JDM groundstrap kit.

i saw a neon do 14 flat at the track last year and buddy only had a 75 shot on it. NX kit goes for about a G. i own a 95' SOHC neon as well as my civic, and she ran high 15's with a custom CAI.
as i said before, junky but spunky cars.

take out the spare tire, back seat, passenger seat, stereo, a/c (if have), put on steely 13"s, strut bar, engine mounts, CAI and if you got the DOHC neon, you can possibly pull off a very high 14.

Please elaborate on how a strut bar, engine mounts, and removing the stereo can reduce your 1/4 time.

Engine mounts?! You can remove your engine mounts and run 14s?

What's keeping your engine suspended in the engine bay? Hopes and dreams of running 14s?

Your deck weighs next to nothing in relation to the weight of the car.

I don't get what you are trying to say by removing your deck and engine mounts.

engine mount inserts = reduces engine movement and wheel hop
strut tower brace = reduces wheel hop
13" steel rims = reduced enercha and weight
removing seats = approx. 40lbs.
removing spare tire, stereo, a/c, etc.. = approx. 60lbs.
stock DOHC = 1/4 in 15.8
CAI = 5-10hp
100lbs of weight removed = 0.2 sec in the 1/4

with all this done, with the right driver and the right reaction time and the right tire pressure on not too hot of a day at the track, a neon like this should pull off a 15 flat or a 14.9.
Spewn would have to agree with me on this.

Motor mount inserts are not the same as motor mounts.

Strut tower brace does not reduce wheel hop. It stiffens the chassis so when your car makes a quick lane change, its not wobbling in different directions.

You would have to be stupid to remove your 0.5 lb stereo to shed off 0.000001 sec.

10 hp for a custom intake? Your kidding rite? A custom CAI does not add more than 5 hp.

A good rule of thumb is that 100 lbs of weight removed will shed 0.1 sec in the 1/4 mile.

Reaction time has nothing to do with your 1/4 e/t

I highly doubt that with what you mentioned a dohc neon can pull off a 14.9...especially if you have stock tires.

strut tower brace = reduces wheel hop (no it doesn't... strut tower is designed to improve wheel contact with the ground when steering (rapidly or otherwise)... besides.. front wheel drive cars tend to understeer)

13" steel rims = reduced enercha and weight (I'll have to agree with you on this one... but your rotors and calipers probably won't fit under 13" steel rims so that's useless.)

removing seats = approx. 40lbs. (ok)

removing spare tire, stereo, a/c, etc.. = approx. 60lbs. (stereo removal will not make a difference... your deck is nil compared to the relative weight of your entire vechicle. I bet you the cloth on your driver seat weighs more than the deck)

stock DOHC = 1/4 in 15.8

CAI = 5-10hp (CAIs will not give you more horsepower.. at most.. maybe 1 hp I'd say!.. think about it logically... colder air is denser than warmer air... HOWEVER... how much colder do you think the air is in the corner of the car (bottom corner) as opposed to the stock (top corner)? 3, 4, 5 degrees at most? Physics and chemistry will tell you that 5 degree cooler air is SLIGHTLY denser than 5 degree warmer air... but it won't yield 5 hp.

with all this done, with the right driver and the right reaction time and the right tire pressure on not too hot of a day at the track, a neon like this should pull off a 15 flat or a 14.9. (reaction time will only matter off the line I suppose..)
