Chumpcar racing series/24 hours of Lemons
For those of you who want to do some budget racing.. this is for you!
I have been emailing John from the Chumpcar racing series http://www.chumpcar.com And I think I persuaded him to have a canadian event next year at Shannonville. Its in May ,2010.
For anyone that doesnt know Chumpcar is similar to the 24 hours of Lemons, basically a 500.00 dollar car, at the track racing. (500 doesnt include safety items-cage,safety gear/brakes and or tires.)
My team, Team Magnum Pi Nesses will be campaigning a 1986 NA Toyota Supra at the 24 hours of Lemons, Nelson Ledges road course in Ohio for a full 24 hour event - this October 3rd and 4th,2009. We have been selected with about 120+ other teams including a handfull of other Canadian teams. We also plan to be in attendance for the first Canadian Chumpcar series race in May 2010.
If you still dont know what the 24 hours of Lemons is -- here is a video to enlighten you

Thanks

Well, we prepped our non running 1986 supra for..
$280 for cage kit from csc racing- 4 point (welded it in ourselves) added rear supports to make it 6 point, extra 40 bucks in material.
$120 for timing belt/tensioner kit
(installed by us - no labour cost)
Brakes all around, needed only pads/rotors just replaced (under 100)
used aluminum race seat 50 bucks - from circle track guys
brand new 5 point racing harness belt 100 bucks
we stripped the car totally, and sold as much of the car as we could (interior pieces to make some money back)
The biggest improvement that we found was buying a really good brake fluid, we purchased castrol srf (about $100) for 1 litre it is by far the best brake fluid you can buy and the biggest improvement to prevent boiling brake fluid.
We did everything we could to minimize the expense and maximize the fun factor.
We originally had 4 drivers and everyone put in 500 to cover costs.
We had two sets of tires on stock wheels. Our tires have 300 treadwear rating and we found that the car handled well and tire wear was minimal. If you can pick up some help; ie sponsors along the way it helps alot.
Hope this helps,
Joe
