Putting a Turbo in my 99 civic si (D16y8)
This has been mentioned before but I got my own specific questions,
First of all, I don't have the money for the labor to do a whole engine rebuild and I don't really need more than 200whp as I'll most likely kill myself.. Unless anyone knows a way to get a rebuild for rather cheap(around 1grand) parts and labor..
I want to know if my 160,000km stock motor would be good for a turbo if I keep the psi around 8-10 and I get a great tune by someone.
I was thinking of getting a garret gt25-gt28.. I could most likely find one for around $800 used. I need a turbo setup that'll run winter+summer if possible.
also where do I find a list of parts that the turbo will need and that'll fit my specific car, so I can kijiji everything daily and try to get the best price.
Also what am I looking at for a installation and tuning price wise?
Thanks everyone!!!

you're looking at around $1000-1500 for install and tuning, depending on how much fabrication is necessary to make all your parts work together.
You'll need:
-turbo
-turbo manifold
-downpipe
-oil feed/return lines and oil pan gasket
-wastegate (if the turbo isn't internally gated)
-wastegate dumptube
-intercooler
-intercooler charge piping
-couplers and clamps
-blow-off valve
-vacuum lines and misc fittings/tee's
-walbro 255lph fuel pump
-at least 440cc injectors
-obd2 to obd1 ecu conversion harness and chipped p28
-proper PCV valve or catch can setup (a lot of people miss this one)

hey zeeman, I heard you are the **** when it comes to tuning.. could I look out for you when the time comes? Can you also do installs?
Are those parts you listed universial or will I have to look for specific parts for my car, like would I need a specific intercooler or ??
and which turbo would be the best for summer/winter usage.. also should I get a boost controller and gauges?
Thanks for the help and me and scrid3r will be rocking turbos soon. lol

Yeah you need boost controller. Only specific parts are:
-manifold
-injectors
-fuel pump
Stuff like intercooler, bov, vac lines etc are all universal.
Also I found piping for intercooler that came out of a civic therefore it fits through all the cutouts. And make sure that bov works with the piping since there are different ones.

Zeeman is the **** when it comes to anything turbo related man.
I've been around the honda scene for awhile now.. and I have seen a lot of hacked up installs/turbo set-ups. One thing that I will tell you, is if you do decide to turbocharge, do it right man. No short-cuts. Pay now to do it right, opposed to paying double half-way through the season when your wastegate and turbo falls off because of shotty fabrication.

yes, I do installs and everything.
I don't recommend the 14b turbo, its too small and will run out of steam around 5500-6000rpms and the boost will drop off a few PSI, meaning so will your power.
I also don't recommend using a sidemount intercooler. You can get a cheap intercooler from ebay, along with the charge pipe kits. Use a good turbo, manifold, bov, wastegate and injectors/fuel pump, this will ensure good reliability of your car....and of course tuning....tuning is KEY.
Chris_v2 had a boosted car, for a brief period of time, so he's speaking from firsthand experience, as am I.
A t3 50 trim .48 a/r is a decent turbo for a d-series. It will spool up relatively fast and provide lots of top-end power.

thanks zeeman and everyone!
Once I get home i'll start my shopping around and hopefully get everything I need before the summer then start saving for installation/tuning.
Will my 2.5" apexi ws 2 catback be good for the turbo setup I'll be installing?
t3 50 trim .48 a/r? will a GT28R work?
some guy on here wants to sell me a GT28R + Manifold + Downpipe + Turbo Elbow all for $1300""
is this worth it?
I hate being a noob but I'm learning.. scrid3r teached me quite a bit so far listening to him ramble about his turbo :P!
Well back to the beach! peace

What do you think of this kit?
FJ Distributors
Will it allow me to put a higher psi?
or.. FJ Distributors

Couldnt I just get this:
FJ Distributors
or should I get that above kit and just the rods itself.. Ill be paying $650+usd for the kit+rods or I could get the pistons + rods for $400..
What will my realiable whp be with that done.. compared to stock

"Notching of Block required on D15/D16 engines"
man i say for now just run stock motor+turbo and just have fun with that. later when you get tired of it, spend money to build the bottom end. if you finish 1 shot, what are you gonna do after? lol
and i think 200whp will be sufficient for you for now.

Current car setup:
90' CRX Turbo
B16A1
Garrett T30, 7psi boost, 197whp.
10.1:1 Compression (Stock, FTL!)
Too further zeeman:
You want lower compress pistons, 8-9:1, and look for dished pistons. Wiseco has great pistons! Shout to Garage 16!
