Problem in an 01 si

Hey,

I have a stock 01 si 5spd that has a limiter style problem. If i first start the car and go past 4000rpm between 1st - 3rd it runs fine. But after i do that one i cant pass 4000rpm any more times. Basicly after that, when i hit 4000rpm the engine hits a limiter cutting off the fuel. Is this a computer error? or what is wrong? has anyone run into this?

Any help would be awesome. Thanks
Curt

It might be a limiter until the engine warms up. That way nothing gets damaged.

Oh, I see. Is this something that has just started happening? I'm sure you would have mentioned it, but any CEL's?

Its happened to me too once or twice... Its really wierd. It too rare for me to care about it.

For me it happened when i stalled after someone completely cut me off. I slammed the brakes it forgot i was driving stick. Started the car, i had a little bit of road rage so i tried to speed up and catch up to the a$$ hole. But the car didnt want to go past 4k rpm. 2 min after it was fine...

Thats what I was thinking. Could be a safety precaution to prevent damage to the engine before it warms up to operating temp.

Why are you reving a cold engine that high anyway?

It is always on. The engine when cold will go past 4 grand. But after i go through the gears once, even if i do or dont hit 4000 rpm through the gears the first time, it will still happen. Its a constant always on thing pretty well....

Why did you buy a car with an issue like this where both you and the previous owner could not figure out the issue. I think this is some karma for not doing your due diligence.

I was driving tonight and i thought about this thread. Maybe your throttle cable got loose so when you press the gas pedal all the way down (WOT), its only going to about 4000rpm cause the cable isnt able to pull throttle plate all the way back. Just a suggestion but look into that.

PCM cuts fuel when it see's something wrong. There is a sensor out of range somewhere.

Get the vehicle scanned, and you'll most likely find a sensor that is out of range. I forget what list of sensors honda states that will cause a fuel cut, but some of them where ECT, MAP, TPS, etc.

I checked over the net and some ppl said it was the tps and it fixed the problem but a lot of ppl also said they were low on oil but you said the oil was good. When was the oil changed tho?
