Perferred engine swap and $
Hey,
Im just thinking about a swap now for the spring, i have an SE coupe, which is pretty weak, and i may want to do a swap depending on how much it would cost for it all installed and stuff. Just curious what you guys think is the best thing to do to the EK? I would really wanna do a K20 swap but i kno by the time its all said and done its gonna cost like 10 grand.
let me know what you guys have seen or what you would reccommend for it not being as weak anymore thanks.

First, what are your goals with the car?
Are you driving on the street only, or do you plan to track your car often as well?
Either way, my own opinion is to go no less than an Integra 1.8L VTEC engine. It has more low end torque that you can use in city driving, and has good top end too if you want to track it.
Putting a K20 in an EK is RIDICULOUS. It has so much power for such a light chassis. I've driven one and I'm in love with the power. You won't believe it until you experience it yourself.

I am a fan of forced induction, so often times I recommend you work with what you've got. The D16 can output more power then most people know what to do with anyways.
Vitara pistons + Forged rods + Turbo, can equal 350-400whp safely on a good tune. And the cost is on par with most engine swaps, and in some cases even the cheaper solution, but the hp, and more importantly torque gain, is what will set it apart as the greater option in my opinion.
Just another avenue to consider.

the turbo/boost option is really intreaging me. It must take a while for it to all be put together and all that though. Also, aren't turbos found to break down a lot? I wont be tracking the car, i just want something more fun to drive that will put a smile on my face everytime i hit the gas pedal.

i would go witha b 16 in that car dude its cheap and you can do so much with it. a k20 is a lot of work and money, a turbo on your stock engine will give you to much juice right away and you wont want to drive the car all the time. so the b16 is the middle and you can do a lot more with it latter.

A B16 or GSR B18 would be good choice. Lot of people use and recommend a GSR B18 for turbo builds.
If looking to stay all motor look up LS/vtec or a B20/vtec. You would have more power that a stock GSR B18, and it won't cost you anything like a K20.
I like B20/vtec personaly. Most of the builds I've seen are easily pushing 210-220 hp to the wheels and 150 ft-lbs.

b16 you can get for cheap now.... b18 is a few bucks more, but a little more hp and some torque..
BUT
there are no LOW KM b16/18s anymore (unless you get a2's out of SIR's locally)
a lot of people claim their gen1 and 2 b16s have like 70k on em, i call pure BS...
you are better off doing a clean build yourself so you know it truly is a fresh engine.
eagle rods/je pistons/rings/rod bolts/arp headstuds can be found CHEAP for your engine (ebay!). that would make that block fresh and redone. for a few bucks more, you can do the valves/springs, and it would be a pretty damn brand new engine.
then
slap a decent lil turbo on there, and laugh your *** off as you destroy k20s.
a turbo setup (garrett) isn't too expensive. avoid ebay for turbo's unless it's a real garrett/turbonetics/etc
turbo setups are only as unreliable as the quality you put in.
you can do pistons+rods+bolts+arp head studs+valves+turbo for what it would cost you to do a swap up to any b series, and you'd be a whole lot happier... trust me...boost is incredibly addictive.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/FERREA-STAINLESS-...QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Skunk2-Valve-Spri...QQcmdZViewItem (some dont like skunk 2)
Tuning with zeeman $300
there will be a few more costs here and there...but... it's worth it... so so so worth it
so
build it up, turbo it, tune it right. reliable, fresh engine, with boost.

By the looks of the pic on your avatar we have the exact same SE. i just swapped in a b18b1 ls integra motor. final cost worked out around 2200. 1500 for motor and tranny delivered and then i bought a parts integra 98 for 800 and traded it for the labour and remaining parts needed. It was a nightmare trying to do my research and i wish i had found this site along time ago. If you have a reliable mechanic that has the knowledge to perform swaps then id recommend this swap or the gsr or b16. but i do think i woulda been better off to just find a d16y8 si engine and easily swap that in.. small gains but small cost and ease..

LOL lasted 50,000 km's of abuse so far... and i lost count how many neutral drops i've done
but ya a high compression b20 goes for $500.00 then throw a vtec head after if you want
