Oil Catch Can

I was wondering if these are only usefull on boosted or built N/A motors, or would a B16 with I/H/E benefit from one? Also is the proper way to hook one up to go from the PCV valve to the catch can, and then from the IM to the catch can?

Thanx.

a stock compression normally aspirated B16 will not benefit from a catch can. there is a whole big thread on it on h-t discussing theory and how to hook it up.

I just came across that thread. Would it do any harm putting one in anyways?

I kinda like the way they look. I'm on a budget this summer (wedding and buying a house) so I'm itching to do something, and it's not that expensive to do. I just don't want to do anything to harm the motor.

you can make 2 bungs on the valve cover. seen it done lots of times, yet not sure exactly how to do it

so to get this straight, i can just tap 2 bungs in the v/c and run them into a tank. where does all the crap go from there? in the pic i see a hose going from the bottom of the tank.

the bottom line drains back into the oil pan. the gasses vent to atmospehere. it's not legal for use on the roads due to emissions testing regulations - you would be in violation of the clean air act.

the bungs are tig welded into the valve cover, then baffled from the inside to minimize oil loss through the fittings.

seanv98, you'd be dead wrong if you assume this is cheap. a setup like the one posted above runs around $400 USD. pretty steep for something that would be useless in your bay. anything of lower quality would just be a peice of turd and you would be an undercover ricer whose car would get towed if inspected

well you can make the can. if you have a welder you could tig weld the bungs. or you can drill holes, tap a bung in and jb weld.
so in the end you pay for...bungs/hoses/can

catch cans are also useful because you don't get sticky throttle body and you keep your injectors clean aswell. But, the downside is you lose fuel efficiency because the unburn fumes are suppose to go back to the intake and not release it to the atmosphere. Thats just my 2 cents

Thanx for your input, yeah I don't realy want to add anything that is a) useless, and b) rice.

Cheers.
