The IAT sensor measures the temperature of the air, it has nothing to do with the coolant temperature, that would be the ECT sensor (engine coolant temperature). You're thinking along the right lines though, maybe the ECT compensation table needs some tweaking? Or the ECT sensor isn't working properly. Obd1 cars are kinda bad for the CEL coming on, it kinda takes a lot before it will trigger the CEL.
High_in_fibre you have a tuned ecu right?
Has it always done this?
i dont think i was clear in what i was saying lol. the example about the bov in the recirc system was just an example of bad air/fuel ratio and condtions caused by it, bogging, stalling rough idle etc as you said the mass airflow sensor has metered the air already and expects it to be there as it has no way of knowing or compensating which would be unrelated to the orig poster's car because as you said it doesnt use a mass airflow and uses the manifold absolute pressure sensor, just trying to get the concept clear, but i think i failed lol.

what i meant about the iat was that it might be malfunctioning and not recognizing the air as being so cold/dense right? so more oxygen and the car having no idea that the air is soo dense and not compensating by throwing in more fuel. what i was thinking of was the original poster said it doesnt do it after the car is warm or when it hasnt sat very long. so i was thinking that the warm coolant flowing through the tb may be warming the air to a point where the car was throwing in enough fuel to get a reasonable mixture with the warmer air after the car is warmed up, probably not ideal for fuel economy but enough to maintain driveability.

i understand what youre saying about the ect, which may be malfunctioning also or may be the root of the problem.

ecu is tuned p06...only been doing this for the past month or so....since uts been really cold in morning....
