install head on h22a write up?
#2
Its like installing any other head. Make sure your at tdc at cyl1. Head gasket goes on, then the head. Get a service manual to show you in what pattern to tighten the head bolts and the stages that they should be torqued down in. Then make sure your cam shafts are possitioned for 1st cyl tdc meaning the arrows on the cam gears are pointing up. Put the timing belt on, turn the crank just slightly counter clock wise to gain tension in the belt and tighten the tensioner bolt. Rotate the engine over manually back to 1st cyl tdc to check if its still all aligned. If not, do it again till its right.

ive got the basic idea of how to put it together, more or less i wanted details on how to reassemble the head. When i got the engine it was already in pieces. Ive got a manual but was just hoping for something with more detail.

one more question...the original head studs are 1 piece, the ARP ones are 2 piece...a streight bar, threaded on each end, then the nut is separate. How are these installed? with the double nut trick? Are ARP head studs in fact torqued more than stock ones? how much torque should i imply.

according to the papers i got with the studs (imagine that) it says hand tighten the studs in the block, lower the headgasket, then head onto the block, put the washers on, then the bolts, then tighten to 90 ft lbs, in 1/3 increments (30,60,90).

*thumbs up* ill let you all know how it goes. Tonight i took all of the valves out of the head to change the valve seals...turns out i forgot my needle nose pliers at my aunts. Doh! another job for tomorrow, oh well. Anyone know if there is any difference between the h22a1 head and the same generation h22a head?

yeah i tried the needle nose pliers...no go =/ regular pliers tend to work though...haha. Now my only problem is i dont have enough money to rent a coil spring compressor...so im gonna have to either wait to get more money or try to borrow one off someone, unless princess auto has one for cheap.
