Engine swap question!

hey i currently have a ls motor in my eg and have been thinking about possibly swapping it out for a b16. Is it worth saving up for and then paying somebody to swap the motor? I like my engine alot but it just seems the only way to make power is lsvtec or boost which i dont feel i can financially afford due to maintaince and proper installion of those setups?

Leave the LS engine in it, you have more torque with it.

if I leave it in should i change the transmission to b16? some people tell me i will gain acceleration but then i hear that it doesnt keep the Ls in its power band?

B18B1 1.8 16V DOHC PGM-FI 1834 142hp@6300rpm 127tq@5200rpm '94-'00 Integra RS/LS/GS (USA)

B16A1 1.6 16V DOHC VTEC PGM-FI 1595 160hp@7600rpm 111tq@5200rpm '90-'91 SiR (JDM)

I love my B16, though i sorta wish i went with the b20 bottom w/b16 head or b18c1/c5. The tranny in the b16 is incredibly short which makes it very quick off the line. If you do go with a swap, make sure to get the solid polyurethane mounts. It's rough until they're broken in, though the wheels don't bounce as much while getting traction.

I've had both in my car and the B18 (LS) was nice off the light but lost out as I got going the B16 was a bit slower off the get go but was a killer in the higher revs and was so much more fun to drive. Unless your going to take it to the track and race for money a serious build is not realy needed. Swap in the B16 and just have some fun. Oh and yes a B16 tranny will help ya alot in most cases you can shave a second off your time at the track. Let me know if ya need an install and I'll hook ya up.

alright i think ill just save my money and put cams in the Ls and a b16 transmission. I think it will be cheaper then swapping out the whole engine

I don't believe that will be much cheaper. Get some quotes.

Keep the B18b and be happy you've got some torque off the line. But definitly swap out the long geared LS tranny for a shorter geared B16 tranny.
Just my 2 cents.

Hey, i might be able to solve your problem. I have a B16 head for sale complete, and a B16 Hydro tranny, mint. Let me know if you're interested. That way, you can have Vtec and a short tranny for $800. PM me if you're interested

or for the price you would pay for a swap, you could turbo your motor that you have now?? just an idea out there.

don't expect to get 20whp out of a stage 1 cam upgrade.

stock b18b's put down around 120-130whp
stock b16's put down around 140-150whp

I doubt it??
Stage 1 cams are basically the same prfoile as your stock cams, why bother if your not going at'least stage2. Your replacing your stock cam for basically a stock cam???

b series are incredibly easy so why not save for the b16 or even a b18c1 and install it yourself? or get a friend to help you if they know more?

Hey all you B16 lovers. Ha-ha i am part of the same club. But i have been driving mine for 5 years now and beating the crap out of it each time. I am burning oil, my tranny has a grind on 2nd to 3rd and my exhaust header bolt on the left side ( looking at the engine) is worn and not holding the header perfectly. The engine feels sluggish. I want to make it feel and sound sexy again. I would like to see what is cheaper way to go about this getting a new engine or rebuilding the whole thing and changing the tranny also. I have an EF DX so its all a dry set up. I would like to make it a hydro set up WHAT SHOULD I DO? I want to have it done and set up by end of MAY. Help with shops maybe? Or I don’t know some input would be nice.
