Chipping for fuel economy. What to do...

Have a 92 dx stock d15. Getting 450, and I want to chip it for fuel economy reasons. What do I have to do/get for this to happen?

A chip won't do anything.

You'll have to fix whatever is mechanically wrong with it, and a tune by zeeman himself wouldn't hurt also. Bring it by the shop.. we'll quickly tell you what is causing your low fuel economy.

Well if you have aggressive driving style it will have a big impact. Also, check to make sure the engine light bulb is good. You my be throwing codes and not knowing because the light bulb is burnt and as a result be running in limp mode. The easiest way to know if you have a bad bulb is to check to see if it illuminate when you start the car.

Finally where do you buy your gas? Not sure if it matter but I have heard Pioneer gas is higher ethanol and thus burns quicker resulting in lower efficiency.

Bring it to zeeman for a quick tune.
He can also chip your computer and all that.
Also b4 bringing it to him I would change :

Spark Plug Wires
Spark Plugs
pcv
fuel filter
distributor cap
Distributor Rotor
Change oil & filter.

I was getting 560+kms on a d15bvtec with a stock p28 ecu and I would hammer it from time to time. It also had a zex cam, aem cai, 7.5lbs flywheel, bisimoto header, 2.5" exh.

And as far as tuning goes... I have used quite a few different tuners...
and Andrew is the man!

You can tune your engine to get better fuel mileage, even if your engine is running 100%.

The improvement may not be very significant and may take a while for the cost of tuning etc to pay for itself in fuel savings. Might not be worth it if it's gonna take a year or 2 before you're actually saving money.

i'd also do a tune-up and maybe check/adjust your base ignition timing.

The wifes 95 cx hatchback only gets about 450-500kms to a tank of gas of all city driving. Pure highway she gets like 600kms to a tank.

do the tune up

and if your really into getting my kms per tank
try some of the stuff on this forum and common knowledge that we forget

smaller width tires 185 - 155 , higer psi in tire, do grill blocks, rear wheel skirt, delete antenna, mudflaps..., lower your car, boat tail spoiler, injector pulse tweaking etc...

in the end you'll end up with a "pretty badass" looking car
which gets like 8% or something like that more fuel economy

give the site a look hypermilling and stuff

Pretty much what I'm getting and I don't beat the thing at all. Highway I get more, maybe 550.

Well that's not bad. Maybe a touch lower than what it should be getting if you don't beat on it.

You may have a weak motor (since it is old) or you may just need a tune-up or something.

Like I said, if you want, bring it by the shop.. We'll take a look at it for you.
