so im looking at a 95 civic si, trying to figure out if it's original engine. its a vtec SOHC, wikipidia says the 95 has a SOHC VTEC valve train, doesnt give any edition info.
is this a d-series? which specifically?

Yes, it should be a sohc vtec which is a d-series engine.

yes the stock motor is a d series sohc vtec, to be specific i believe its a d16z6. just take a look at the stamp on the engine block to see what engine it is

92-95 civic SI came with a sohc-vtec d16z6 engines.
look at the stamp just to the right of where the transmission meets the block. on the block there will be a stamp with your engine code.
