Wiper problem -- am I screwed?
Hi guys,
Over the weekend, my wipers have developed a problem where they would come on (at the low speed setting) whenever I turn on my car (in both the BATT and IGN settings). There's no way for me to turn them off! Actually, the problem started manifesting itself over a few days, where the wipers would wipe a couple of times whenever I went over a bump. To me, that's a sign that the relay was slowly starting to go.
Anyway, so the problem has gotten worse and now my wipers would just keep wiping whenever my car is running. Interestingly, if I flip the wiper control to "HI", the wiper would indeed go faster as expected, so that means the switch should be working. All signs point to the relay being the culprit.
So I was looking into the Civic service manual, and it turns out that the wiper relay is built into the ICU! Does that mean I'll have to replace the whole ICU to fix the wipers?? Does the ICU cost a fortune?? AM I SCREWED??

In your case it sounds like the ICU's relay is not functioning properly. If you wanna be absolutely sure, follow the service manual's diagnostic procedure and find out.
Good luck!

There is a TSB also relating to this.
Something having to do w/wipers not returning back to the park position.
Try searching the net, maybe you'll find the TSB and it may help.
EDIT
Found this for 1998 Civic:
00-031 MAY 00 Windshield Wipers - Won't Park or Shut Off
Maybe the title or TSB # may help you in your search??

OK well i guess ill help most of you with this problem. It has nothing to do with your switch, or the relay, you have to remove a piece from the actual wiper motor and bend the metal piece back into place so it will make contact with the circuit board. I will try to find the write-up i used from H-T when i had the same problem (wipers wouldnt turn off).
