The 'Truth' About HID kits

I got this from www.dsmtuners.com and it's a lot of GOOD info for the ppl wanting HID "kits" for thier Halogen fitted cars.

================================================== ===

I really hope this thread can help you guys. I found it on another site and thought it could save myself and few others the headache of constantly explaining this.

Your're making the road more dangerous than it already is by adding a HID kit to your car. so please do HID the right way by doing a retrofit.

HID kits are illegal due to the glare that they cause. Glare is Light that is emitted in a Uncontrollable path. When light is traveling in a uncontrollable path it can hit other vehicle operators affecting there vision because of the High amount of uncontrollable light that is being Emitted from a HID kit in a standard Halogen housing. If you have ever turned a flashlight on right in front of your face while it is dark out, that is the same feeling that the other drivers on the road experience from a standard HID kit.

OEM Vehicles such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus are all equipped with HID or Xenon Headlights. Some use reflector housing’s without projectors. Others use HID projectors.

The Lexus IS300 is a Prime Example of a HID reflector housing. It does not use a Projector. It uses a Specially designed Reflector housing that is meant to use HID. This does not create the Super sharp cutoff. But it does control where the light is being Emitted.

Other vehicles such as the Honda S2000 Use HID projectors, These Projectors are meant to use HID. They are Specially Designed and have been tested Hundreds of times to get the right projection of light while maintaining a Good Cutoff.

Here are pictures of Halogen housings mated with a HID kit

NOW on to THE GOOD stuff!

This is what HID is suppose to look like.. Pictured is a STi:

Its not just honda's either. Here is a mid 90's Lexus with a HID kit:

Thats what I say to that.

But really, I would love to do the retrofit but I will one day but for now I'm happy with the HID's...night and day difference between the halogens and HID's.

this is very old, hid kits are illegal in the states. cops in canada are ok with it unless you have them pointed towards their rear view mirrors or something. oem halogen projectors are not designed to put out the same output as hids.

I rather have OEM poor light output than blind other drivers on the road.

I have that cut off with my lights.. they arent HIDS put they are projectors and I love the straight line cut off. Wondering if I will be able to keep that with the hids..plus the car is lowered even when its raised to the max height in the winter..my lights have a low cut off that they barely get into anyones rear window.

But newayz...the pics are cool and all but like dan said..these facts have been known for a while. ppl are just too broke or stupid to bother to setup hids the right way.

If they made an aftermarket projector or HID specific housing for my car I would buy it.

this is old news, everyone knows HID retro-fit is better then a kit, but its also more expensive. Kits like Prolumen can be fine, yes there is glare but if people take the time to aim the lights, its not that bad.

retro-fit is the right way to do it, but its also alot of work to do it right, thats why many people just buy the HID kit.

Actually thats not all true, my HID low beams easily out power you Halogen high beams, dont go making statement unless you actually have facts to back them up.

Actually I have seen HID's in a 1990 civic OEM headlight housing which is the same as your crx and there was very little glare.
