first sand the area to be painted with fine grit sand paper

then use filler to fill in all dents

repeat sanding on area where filler was used to smooth it out to the body shape of the car

primer area to be painted

sand primered area

wet sand

then send for paint

oh ya, sanding isn't as simple as it looks, keep that in mind if you don't know what to do exactly

Buy/rent some books about it and learn the rights and wrongs if it, if its surface rust, i suggest going to CT and but their Sandblasting kit for 50 bucks, includes 30 pound holding canister, and the gun and hoses, etc.(That is if you have a compressor) Buy some sand, 12 bucks for Black Duty, 50 lbs here in Windsor, just bought some today. Sand blast the area and then clean it with paint thinner or acetone and then RIGHT AWAY primer it. This summer if i get a good digi cam i'll do a detailed step by step write up in it. Right now i'm just gathering info.
