i have an aftermarket bumper thats fiberglass.ive been calling around for prices to get it painted and i came up with TOO EXPENSIVE results. i paid dirt cheap for it, so i was thinking of painting it myself.theres a paint supply shop that sell OEM paint, would it be difficult for me to do myself and turn out ok? or waste of time?

what color are you painting it, and do you have a paint booth?

paint booth=garage im painting it VSM, ordering the paint from a local auto paint supplier which sells OEM paint in spray balms.

I consider myself a rather ok painter. I painted my front bumper and it looks ok *cough*

So, I guess with practice, you could do it. Regular shop charges around 80 to 100 bucks. With flexing additive, you are looking double of that. Without the latter, stone chips will eat away your bumper paint royally fast.

One aerosol can can barely cover 1 front bumper with 2 coats. You want a nice and rich coat, you will need 2 bottles. 1 bottle is 25 bucks tax in (market price, more or less) so with 2, you are at 50 bucks already. But wait, your regular aerosol can clear coat from CT will only spray paint particles at certain amount (due to the opening of the nozzle) and the result will be semi-mat finish looking. Meaning, your front bumper will look dull compare to the rest of your car. Mine is like that.

It is because professional spray kit can output paint particles at 900 per square inch (something I heard, I might miss some numbers) and regular aerosol can can only do about 100. That's why, one will look richer than the other.

So the choice is yours. If you really, really like your front bumper and your car, pay at least 80 bucks and drive slow and don't follow a truck. If this bumper is only a temporary solution until you get a better one (like me, for instance) then just get one can of primer, one can of VSM paint and one can of clear coat (should run you less than 40 bucks) and do it yourself.
