painted the beast

i sanded her down last week and prepped

turned out pretty good for a garage job, i've already done it before and the paint held up really good for over a year but i got the body kit put on so i decieded to give the whole thing another once over. It's really nice looking just a tiny bit of dust on it, nothing that can't be wet sanded and polished out i hope, It turned out like this

A true DIY what do you guys think?

i'm getting the zc, was gonna get a b18b but then i figured the cost was much higher than i expeced, so i went with the zc with all the recomended stuff new timing belt, water pump, clutch kit and so on. He said i'm gonna be happy with it, and i probably will be after all i only got like 98 hp right now stock. So i think it's gonna feel like a big difference. Plus it wasn't that much money.

My only experience was the first coat that i did, last year. You can see that i painted it the same colour once before already, i learned alot from that time, and just built on my mistakes this time it came out better then the last, if i had better conditions ( ie lighting and totally dust free) i would have been damn near perfect. But i agree with you totally it has so much to do with how you set up the gun and air and paint volume coming out. This time i knew better what exactly to be looking for when i was setting up the settings on the gun.

That's very good for a home garage job, very good I say. Too bad our house only has single garage, even if I want to do it, I wouldn't have enough room.

Blue + yellow are nice. IKEA scheme gets my vote, that's how I painted our old house's entrance, by me :P

i wish i had a bigger garage to keep practice and learn from mistakes..... i did my car black in a horrible job.... you interested in doing my ride for some $$$? i can pay for labour and get the real paint... i can do all the sanding myself, but i need the primer prep to be done by you as well....

by the way, where you get the real paintgun and real paint???
what other tools are required???

and, did you clearcoat your car>

Nova dust = the blue and yellow is going to be gone in a few weeks it's been like that for about a year, was gonna go white and blue but too many already have it plus it's a pain in the *** to keep clean.....going with black and blue suede.

t_dot_SiR = i don't really have the time to paint other people's rides cause it takes forever to do it right( masking is a whole day affair if it is a colour change and done right). I didn't sleep much that week that i worked on her.....get up go to work, come home work on the car, go to sleep...like that for over a week not for a while at least.

I got the paint gun from an autobody supply shop right by my house and the paint was bought from sherwin williams automotive coatings.

And finally no clear coat, the paint is an acrylic enamel so you don't clear coat it, you apply 2-3 coats of color and wet sand when you are finished, it turns out very deep and shiney

outcome on the pics looks nice.
next time when u paint to reduce the time on masking things off and to have a better outcome on the paintjob i recommend u strip it more (it takes less time to strip it and u get a better look too) for example take ur mirrors off, your hood off, all the rubber trimmings, mouldings etc on the doors, hood etc off. other then that cudos for the DIY

If you don't clear the acrilyc enamel, won't it fade pretty quickly? Mines getting done now, and it's getting cleared. Like the colour! My 4 door is being done in 350Z orange. Everything that can be taken off is off.
