Are Hood Pins Really Necessary When You Have A Carbon Fiber Hood?

Hey,

I was just wondering if hood pins are really necessary when you have a carbon fiber hood installed. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated it.

I say yes, people say no

People say its for show, but when your driving down the highway and your fibreglas latch cracks off and ur hood smashes ur windshield u got smash into the guardrail and hit oncoming traffic and not only kill yourself but kill others............spend the extra $100 and get pins

BTW: tons of threads on this dude.....http://www.torontocivics.com/tccforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76470

I agree with Gallagher, and they look really good, he does make a good point, think about it on the highway your going at least 110KM/H and the hood weight is like nothing..

so i say go ahead and get them and when you do, take pics

hood pins?
well, if the hood ever comes off, the wire connected to the pins will stop it

depends on the manufacturer and quality of the hood..
mine, i'm good for an easy 160km steady gait, and that's with a live scoop..
other cheaper hoods?? i've seen them flip at 100..

i have the locking ones top side for looks but they're not active

Hood pins are for CF/FG hoods that don't require cable latch so opening hood is fast and easy on the track and in the shop. It wasn't meant as an extra safety device, cause a properly built CF hood won't fly off.

Buying a CF hood, then worry about it fly off the road is absolutely nonsense.

Damn steve, u get gold hood pins?

i have hood pins in my cf hood, better safe then sorry i think. Lots of people have had there hood fly up so its definitely worth it to have the pins. If you dont like the look of the pins, then a good tip is to maybe get some wire and attach that to the latch as well, just for added safety. I wish i had done that cuz i thing hood pins look ugly

i dont see how someone could not be worried driving without any hoodpins :S and a super lightweight hood. Do what u want man, but as u can see from the thread above, 5 people are telling you to get them compared to 1 person telling you not too.

Buy a VIS Racing hood most of them don't require hood pins. Hood pins are for cheap hoods Kierans suggestion of running a safety cable is proabbaly a good idea. What the hell is everyone talking about your all breaking the law by doing over 100km/h anyways.

I like the safety cable idea... they use that in NASCAR too, I seen it get some aircraft cable, attach it to a structural point on the hood and use those climbing rope quick release thingies to attach it to a bolt/anchor on the frame.

Be careful which pins you get. I've seen the Sparco ones gouge the finish of the hood. Best ones are the locking kind, that look like the lock on those D shaped bicycle locks and have the little key. Not sure who makes them. I know they're harder to get and more expensive, but I think they're worth it.
