Front End Accident...

Hey guys. Sad News. I just hit someone from behind. I won't get into the details, but I got a 98 Hatch, and needed front end parts. Everyone's selling 99-00 conversions. I wonder if I should do a conversion. Do u guys think I should make an insurance claim? or do u think I could just get a front end conversion and bend the ree bar back into place? What should I do? Can anyone help me out?

I'm under 25 and my record is good. I'm lookin for the cheapest way out of this. My friend works for a shop and we're thinkin of workin on it together. All I need done is to bend the front part (re-bar) back into place so it can fit a front bumper properly.

paying for the damage yourself will definately help in terms of insurance. rather then going thru them. if the other party you hit already is going thru your insurance you are screwed so if you wish you might aswell go thru insurance aswell.

are you sure you are talking about rebar and not radsupport?
the re bar is the bar that is sticking outside of the radsupport that sits the bumper. if thats the case why even bend it back? buy a new one its only like 50 bucks or whatever.

since your fixing the front end anyways you might aswell change the front end to 99-00.

if you meant radsupport then you have a problem. radsupports on a honda are not there as a structrural piece of the car. you can drive the car with no radsupport in the front as it does NOTHING for the car but litterally hold the rad, headlight and mounts the bumper to the front and latches the hood down that being said the radsupport cannot be bent back straight and re-used as the metal is really thin and weak and chances are it will rip. also even if you get it to bend back to place your front end alignment will not be proper because the headlights and stuff will be out of place since you are now "eye-in" the location as to were its supposed to go rather then knowing where it exactly should be.

just my 2 cents.

if your rad support is damage... might as well go through a front-end conversion that comes with the rad support and complete with everything else like fenders, hood, headlights, bumpers, etc. if its just rebar, pick it up at a junk yard....

and for a '92 cav bumper, the best place is the junkyard... try to visit a few of them.... since you know a shop, sanding/priming/painting is not too much trouble for that junkyard bumper....

if your car is at the collision reporting centre I would take it out ASAP.
you are being billed for it on a daily basis for storage.
get a tow truck and tow it back to your friends shop or to your house. ASAP.

then after that take apart the complete front end and figure out all the damage done to the structure of the car then you will know if you need a new radsupport, rebar, radiator, etc....based on that you can choose to do 99-00 or go back stock.

if the radsupport in in tact and its only the rebar that is bent then i would just replace the rebar and replace only the broken items and thats all.

By the gist of things sounds like your radsupport is gone there is no reason for police to keep your car in the pound if the cars structure is still in tact.

thanks jay. Here's the latest scoop:

imma have to go through insurance, cause the other person got a quote on their car, and they said 3000 to bend back the frame, replace the bumper, and muffler. So I put a claim in. there was not much else I could do. I'm gonna convert to 99-00 I guess

so i'm goin through insurance. I need my rear quarter panels welded with new metal in addition to the front end being done. I'd prefer the whole car painted as well. Anyone can help me out? Big $$$$ for the bodyshop.

i decided to post this hear instead of a new thread. My friend drives a 91 Prelude he bought for only 5k and it was previously owned by a bodyshop owner in barrie who riced the hell out of it with the whole "works". Recently he had his front skirt completely torn off from a hit and run at the new vaughan mills mall and now has it sitting on his drive way collecting snow. Does anyone have any good advice or a referal to a bodyshop?
