custom type-r/SiR grill

is it possible to remove the black center portion of a 98 civic grille so it looks like the type-r or sir? i dont really want to cut it either. should i just buy one? if so, are there any places you know of that sell prepainted ones. my car is the stock honda white sold in the US. if any of you are selling white ones let me know too!

No, if you wanna remove the horizontal fins you gotta cut it out. The grille is part of the shell that bolts to your bumper.

most ppl put the mesh the wrong way to it looks tacky they have the long ends of the diamonds running vertically to save material. 1st of all it CAN look really good if you take your time. Use a sharp blade - X-acto knife or something. Stock grilles are cheap to pick up so even if you hack yours and don't like it, you can grab another from the junk jard. Esp in your neck of the woods. Lay the material so that it runs horizontally and for the love of God, make sure it's level!!!!! You have no idea how many times I've seen crooked grilles Also, paint the mesh black before you put it in. Use aluminium or stainless. It's more $ but worth it.

here is a tip... you can get expanded material (that's what it's called, that mesh) from a building supply store. it's used as a base for stucco on exterior walls of commercial buildings. I find it's a bit on the thin side, but it works and it's cheap

also, put it on overtop of the original grille to see if you like the look before you go cutting up the grille.

or u can go to home depot and get a "gutter gaurd" made of aluminum...and cheap only $4.50CDN for a piece which is 4'x1' (approx)...I meshed out my mom's accord grille for my sister when she drove it and it looked pretty good for a cheap 20min project

ok here it comes, im going to get the materials today i will prolly have it all done by tomarrow, and the install writeup should be done by the end of the day Friday, to early Saturday morning. Who should i email it to so they can see if its worthy for the site? or should i just post it here and then they will take it from here?

My grill is a one piece grill. Middle section, with the fins is not a seperate part on mine. No idea why.
