Question 4th Gen wheel question

I'm looking to get rims but not sure what size (15,16)...thinking of the SIR rims as #1 but aftermarket are nice to of course...I don't want to compromise the ride at all and that is why I'm thinking 15"...But I always want performance....If I go with 16" rims is the ride compromised that much with 40 or 45 size tires or am I better to go with the 15" and 50 size tires?

Before the bling bling days of today the rule of thumb was max plus 2. Which means if you are driving a dx 4th gen, then 15 was the max and for an si it would be a 16. Going beyond that will compromise your ride performance wise.

Although the 17's and 18's do look choice...

IMO i'd go with the 15" I have SIR's on 195/50/15 and the ride quality is very good.

well, 17 's are perfect for your car...y settle for 15's///////

they fit on my 4th gen and i never hear rubbing at all ,and i am dropped about 2 inches or so........the ride is harsh, but they were harsh before i put the 17 on.....just be careful that you don't hit any pot holes...............

Talked to a guy at the meet that was running a 205 width tire in 16's and on a hard right turn(emergency right at about 50 cuz the 4th gen brake fade kicked in).....well during that turn he sliced the back tire sending his car spinning and up over the curb and into a tree.

I would prefer to stick with the 195 15's....but I respect that everyone is different in their choices.

I am sure with the 17's your ride looks phat

I'd say go for 15's. If you have some sort of kit on, then maybe 16's. I wouldn't go more than 16. Just my opinion. But of course, it's your car, so go with whatever size you please.

Not a problem.....
Ever been driving your car hard down a track and slam on the brakes only to find out they don't really work......prolly because there is too much of a build up of energy....basically the pads and rotors overheat. I think the brake fluid boils when brake fade occurs...

I hate that feeling cuz you are helpless.

That, my friend, is the simplest example of what brake fade feels like.

Here is an automotive definition of brake fade

BRAKE FADE

Definition: A reduction in brake power due to lessening of friction between the brake shoes and drum or pads and disc. Brake fade often occurs from heat buildup due to repeated or prolonged brake application.

Hope this helps.....It seems to me 4th gens have a lack luster braking system....this is why I want to upgrade it prior to swapping my engine out.

Did you also put on the steel braided brake lines?
How much do you feel the difference is.... 20% better stopping...50%?

I drove an '88 DX with 2002 SI rims (15 inch) and it rubbed in the corners like crazy. the car was dropped about 1.75 inches with R1 Coilovers and KYB shocks.

Thats weird. It shouldn't, mine is almost dropped 2" with 15" SIR's and no rubbing. The tire size may be incorrect. For eg. the stock tire size for the Si or Sir rims are: 195/65/15 (i think) for that particular car 1999,00',01'. that could've been the problem.
