I used a buffer to apply and remove.

2 Coats - Meguiar's Plast-X
2 Coats - Meguiar's Scratch-X,
2 Coats - Meguiar's Professional Fine Cut Cleaner
2 Coats - Meguiar's NXT Wax

Can you tell I'm a Meguiar's fan?

Did any of you find that the light output to be distorted at all after the process?

What kind of buffer did you guys use?

GREAT WRITE UP.... i was literaly the first person to reply to this post and never knew then that i would be needing it. I got my hands on some corner lights but they had been painted by the previous owner to be amber but i wanted them to be clear as originaly intended so i used this write up and this is what i got.

This DIY is AMAZING!!!

when I was blackening out my headlights I accidently dropped one of my headlights and for some reason scratches started showing on my headlights like condensation but they were scratches..

well I followed the OP's DIY instructions and I bought all the necessary sandpaper that was posted but I only ended up using:

-400
-1000
-2000
(didnt wana use 180/220 it seemed way to rough)

got a lil worried when after the first 1000 it didnt seem that clear, but this just takes alot of time.. sand it out a lil longer.. go back a grit if needed, and it turned out better. Several minutes with Plastix and OH MY GOD it looked BRAND SPANKING NEW .. I forgot to take pictures of my before headlights, ill try to find later but OH MY GOD plastix is the S*IT!

can not thank enough for this DIY saved me from buying new headlights

amazing diy and one of my personal favorite. i purchased a spare set of 99 civic headlights before doing my HID retrofit and they were not in the best of shape. a few things i learned from my own experience...

1. Unless the lens surface is really really bad....dont start with 180/200. 400 will work just fine.

2. Buffing is key....cuz the haze comes back regardless how many coats of scratch-x, plastix or any polymer you use. the best way to get the shine and clarity is to properly buff it out and speaking of buffing, nothing beats a high speed buffer like porter cable.

imported_alwaysoverkill 20-Jun-2007 07:58 AM

yeah, 220 grit or less is only for very bad, i mean heavily, heavily pitted otherwise 400 is plenty.

imo you should def finish off with 2000 grit and not 1000/1500... 2000 makes the scratches very very tiny and makes it easier to get rid of them when u buff it.. jus my 2 cents

Before & after shot using Plastx with a cloth polishing wheel on a dremel tool.

Before by hand: Right
After dremel: Left
