... USB = Universal ... Right ? ...

so im helping a DJ friend convert to Serato, and he was in need of an external HDD full of all my reggae that will work on an ibook... so i picked up this HDD for him ....

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0077170&catid=

now on the web there is a section that says weather its a PC/MAC compatible .. this drive only shows PC but other external drives shows PC,Mac ... i dont understand why 1 external USB HDD will work on PC and MAC and some wont ... i mean USB is universal is it not ? .. i assume that the compatibility is in regards to the software that is provieded with the drive and no the drive itself ...

any MAC'ers out there care to shed some light ?

I'm using a macbook...u hafta convert the drive to a FAT32 partition in order for both operating systems (xp/osx) to be able to read and write to it.

New Microsoft O/S's use NTFS which Mac OS cannot read. You have to reformat in FAT32 in order for the drive to work on both PC and Mac.

from what ive read ... the mac can read NTFS but cannot write to it .. and fat32 allows u to read/write with both OS's ... problem was .. fat32 has a limitation of 32gb per partition ... oh well ill see what happens ..
